Peaceful Appeal at the Chinese Consulate
1. Once, during a peaceful appeal to call for an end to the persecution at the Chinese Consulate, a middle-aged Chinese lady passed by and told a practitioner, “In fact, we do not believe what the Communist Party says in its propaganda. We have undergone so many movements in mainland China. Every time when the Communist Party conducts a movement, it always has strong evidence to support what it says. But when it decides to restate the good name of someone, it must find scapegoats. Falun Gong is practised by so many people in the world; this practice must be very good for the health. I want to learn it too.”
2. On another occasion, a person took a leaflet and said, “Oh, Falun Gong. I’m not going to read it; it’s already banned by the Government, isn’t it? Why are you still practising it?” Before the practitioner had answered, a passer- by replied, “Don’t just listen to the propaganda from the Communist Party. There is no freedom of speech in China. In the past presidents Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping were criticised as a capitalist and a traitor over night. Later on, when they wanted to reinstate their good names they just did so. The Communist Party always does whatever it wants and lies according to its needs. We should also consider and listen to other sources. We are all adults and can make independent judgements.”
3. One day a practitioner handed a newspaper to a passing gentleman who gave it a glance and said, “Hey! What this paper reports on are all sensitive topics! Is it a daily newspaper?” The practitioner told him this newspaper is published at our own expense and is not published every day. The gentlemen gave the practitioner an idea: “You can go and get some commercials. The more commercials you get, the more income you have. We cannot see the truth inside China, so we really want to know about the truth. This newspaper dares to talk about the truth. It is better if it can be issued daily, so that we can read it every day. We have been deceived by the Communist Party for decades, now living abroad, we don’t want to be treated like that again!”
Making phone calls to clarify the truth
1. Once a practitioner made a phone call to the general secretary of a town in China. When the secretary’s mother picked up the phone she knew it was a Falun Gong practitioner straight away. She said, “I have received seven or eight phone calls from you today. Our letter box often receives materials and Video-CDs about Falun Gong. We all know about the truth.”
The practitioner told her, “Please can you tell your son not to get involved in the persecution. Please be kind to Falun Gong practitioners.”
2. When making a phone call to the head office of a public security bureau, the head of the bureau picked up the phone. He told the practitioner, “We all know what you just told me.” The practitioner asked, “If there is order from above (to take part in persecuting Falun Gong), what are you going to do?”
He replied, “That is easy: when there is an order from above, there is also another way to do it from below.”
3. In a prison in Dongbei, a prison guard picked up the phone. There was no reply at all for a while when the practitioner spoke to him about the truth. At first the practitioner thought that he had hung up the phone, so asked, “Are you still listening?” The prison guard said, “Wait a minute. Let me go call everyone to come and listen.” Than he opened a telephone system that connected to every office and asked the practitioner to continue talking about the truth of the persecution for over an hour.
4. The wife of the head of a public security bureau picked up the phone. After she listened to what the practitioner had to say, she raised some doubts about the legitimacy of the so-called “Tiananmen Self-immolation”: “I also find this case suspicious. Tiananmen was in very tight control. How could Falun Gong practitioners get in there?”
The lady thanked the practitioner for telling her so much and said she hoped that they can keep in touch in the future to let her know about more about the truth.
