On January 29th 2005, British Falun Gong practitioners held an activity to promote Falun Gong and tell people about the persecution in the centre of Bristol, the largest city in south-western England. Groups of pedestrians stopped to watch the exercise demonstration and read the posters detailing the violations of human rights happening to Falun Gong practitioners in China. Many people signed their names on a petition calling for Jiang Zemin, China’s former leader and chief instigator of the genocide against Falun Gong, to be brought to justice through a court of law.
Prior to the event, practitioners went to explain the purpose of the activities to the Bristol local authorities and expressed their hope that they will help people to understand more about Falun Gong and the brutal persecution. After the authorities listened to the situation and learned about Falun Gong, they gladly gave their approval for the activity.
Before this activity, practitioners had previously organised several events to spread Falun Gong in Bristol so lots of people were familiar with the practice. Some people came over to the desk to sign the petition and introduce Falun Gong to their friends. When a man saw the petition letter to bring Jiang Zemin to justice, he told his friends, “Look! It’s him - the most evil scoundrel who carries out such a cruel persecution.” Lots of passersby passed by so quickly that they couldn’t take in the contents of our exhibition so practitioners gave them leaflets. Some people glanced at the leaflets and said, “It’s Falun Gong. I know all about it.”
