By a practitioner in China
On December 16, a detailled article about how the Chinese government makes fake news appeared on Minghui Net. This reminded me of my experience of being on Chinese TV without my knowledge or consent.
Because I insisted on continuing to be a good person according to "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance," the Youth League Branch Committee [an organization for young people] of our workplace asked me to write a withdrawal petition and my membership was cancelled earlier than the normal age. After I "withdrew" from the committee, the local newspapers and TV stations reported many times that the factory where I worked was a "model work unit." The media introduced how well the factory brainwashed people and the factory ensured that no Youth League member practised Falun Dafa.
Around September 1999, I received a call from the security section of the factory asking me to come over. This time, they appeared exceptionally polite and kind. They led me to a meeting room on the second floor that was carefully decorated and full of flowers. The section chief and the associate chief received me in person. However, they appointed me to sit on a chair with its back toward the door. At that time, I didn't think much of it and immediately began to promote the Fa [principles of Falun Gong] to them and told them about the great elevation of my mind and morality after I studied the Fa. About a minute later, the section chief said, "All right, that's it for today." Then the two of them left me in the meeting room. After a period of time, I learned with surprise that I was on the news. It was about my talk at the security section the other day. However, the news only showed a secretly taped view of my back and my voice was also edited. The broadcaster said that after being "patiently educated" by the security personnel, I "completely woke up, got rid of all my [mental] pressure and began a brand new life."
How dare the government officials and news media do such a thing as to completely distort the facts! After that, whenever I encountered the police when being arrested or when my home was ransacked, I always insisted to stand facing the door in order to avoid being secretly videotaped again.
In 1999, something ridiculous happened in my city. A person who practised Falun Gong exercises [but didn't conduct himself seriously according to Falun Dafa principles] for about half a month fell ill and went to a hospital. Some policemen went to her and asked her to be on the TV news. They told her if she says she practised Falun Gong but fell seriously ill, and the hospital restored her, then not only would all her hospital bills be paid, but the government would also give her an extra 3,000 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income in urban China] as a reward. She immediately refused, saying, "I did practise Falun Gong for few days before, but I quit a long time ago. My illness has nothing to do with Falun Gong whatsoever. Go find someone else who will say such a thing against his conscience." As the police left, they laughed at her, saying she was being stubborn for not taking the money offered to her.
This is how the CCTV "makes" news! The list of 1400 death cases, the Tiananmen "Self-immolation incident" and the series of "the Interview of Focal Points" [CCTV program controlled by the government] must have all been made this way.
