On Friday May 13th 2005, Falun Gong practitioners in Bratislava celebrated World Falun Dafa Day. This day was the 13th anniversary of the public introduction of Falun Gong. Falun Gong was first introduced by Mr. Li Hongzhi on May 13th 1992 in Changchun, China. The practice quickly became popular, amassing 100 million practitioners, and is now found in over 60 countries around the world. In 1999, former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin enlisted the powers of the Chinese Communist Party to start a brutal campaign of persecution against Falun Gong that soon escalated to the status of genocide. Over the past 6 years, over 2,000 innocent people have lost their lives in this persecution through a variety of methods including many forms of torture and abuse. The Chinese Communist Party shows no regard for human life in its merciless lust for power and control over the Chinese people.
On this occasion the practitioners from Slovakia and Czech Republic organised a small event to promote Falun Gong and also raise awareness of the persecution against the practice. They demonstrated the five sets of Falun Gong exercises and they distributed leaflets and balloons with the words "The World Needs Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" for the children. Many people signed a petition calling for an end to these human rights abuses against Falun Gong practitioners and talked with practitioners about the situation. People enjoyed the atmosphere created by the serene and peaceful exercises. They left with a smile on their face and hope in their hearts that the suffering of practitioners in China will soon be over.
