A High-level Chinese trade delegation from multinational firms visited Germany between May 31st and June 4th. The head of the delegation was the Communist Party (CCP) Secretary Wan Yunkun from China’s northeastern Jilin Province. He was charged with human rights violations in Germany’s courts.
The delegation visited the Volkswagen plant on Thursday and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Lüneburg-Wolfsburg (http://www.ihk24-lueneburg.de/) and on Friday Degussa in Düsseldorf, Germany's third largest chemical company that has a checkered past.
Wang Yunkun is one of the defendants in a complex lawsuit that charges the defendants with committing genocide, crimes against humanity and torture. The lawsuit was filed November 21st 2003 in the Karlsruhe Federal Court and is still under litigation (http://www.faluninfo.de/150.0.html).
Wang Yunkun, as the CCP Secretary, holds direct responsibility for the persecution of Falun Gong in Jilin Province, as the CCP province committees are in charge of the coordination and organization of this persecution.
On July 23rd 1999, Yunkun enthusiastically declared his support for the persecution campaign in an article published by the Chinese daily newspaper People’s Daily just one day after the official order for the persecution of Falun Gong was publicised.
On November 14th 2001, Party Secretary Yunkun gave a speech during a seminar in Baishan, Jilin Province, during which he stressed the importance of the persecution against Falun Gong. He continued to affirm his support of the persecution at other public events.
Wang Yunkun personally participated in a number of brainwashing sessions and interrogations of Falun Gong practitioners, during which inhuman measures and tortures were perpetrated. Such actions were meant to “re-educate” Falun Gong practitioners and force them to renounce the practice in writing. Since the beginning of the persecution, such torture led to over 2,500 deaths of Falun Gong practitioners. However, those researching such activities believe the number of those killed during the persecution to be much higher.
Further information about brainwashing is available at: World Organisation to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong "The Destruction of Mind and Body Through Brainwashing" (http://www.zhuichaguoji.org/en/index2.php? option=content&task=view&id=60&pop=1&page=0).
Falun Gong, also called Falun Dafa, is a cultivation practice of the Buddhist school. This practice originated in China and is practiced in more than sixty countries worldwide. Besides the exercises, a practitioner places great emphasis on his/her conduct, i.e., to live by the principles Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance.
Since July 20th 1999, Falun Gong has been persecuted irrationally, with the goal being to wipe out the practice.
