Falun Gong practitioners were braving the weather and standing in the snow and the biting wind whilst holding activities to let more people know about the persecution taking place against those who practise Falun Gong in China to people on the streets of Manhattan. This photograph clearly shows the location of the event. The photographer used the contrast of both distant and close objects to bring out the main character, a westerner Falun Gong practitioner holding a poster board. The Falun Gong practitioners in the background, as well as the poster in the foreground, explain the cause of the event.
The main character in the photograph looks very nice. His facial expression is very eye-catching. The spirit of perseverance is reflected in his eyes. The freezing weather also symbolises the determination and solidarity of those wanting to stop the persecution taking place in China.
This is an excellent example of journalistic photography.
