The 2005 World Field and Track Games were held in Finland's capital Helsinki from the 6th of August. Falun Gong practitioners went to the train station in the city centre to promote Falun Gong and tell people about the brutal persecution against practitioners in China. Many members of the public stopped to look at the display boards and find out more.
The games were originally held in Helsinki back 1983. There were 1,900 athletes from two hundred countries participating in the various contests and more than one hundred and ninety countries and regions participated in the live broadcasts. It is estimated that four billion people will watch the broadcasts worldwide. Falun Gong practitioners in Finland and other North European countries thus felt that this was a precious opportunity to let people know about the human rights abuses against their fellow practitioners in China and arranged activities after hearing this information.
The public passed by in streams. They were attracted by the elegant and quiet exercises. A lot of tourists took picture of the practitioners doing the exercises. After seeing the posters of some practitioners who were persecuted to death, some people wanted to resolve a question: why were these men and women, old and young with kind and gentle faces, persecuted to death? They went to read the display boards or talk with practitioners. After they understood the truth, they signed their names on a petition to show support.
Three persons from Ireland signed their names right after they received leaflets and two of them even said they wanted to learn Falun Gong. One lady who just came here from New York told us she had signed our petition in New York. She praised us for doing very well and encouraged us to do well in every country.
A gentleman refused to receive a leaflet at the beginning, yet he read the display boards seriously. After a while, he said to a practitioner, "China is too big. It is useless for you to do this." Practitioners replied, "Every little bit will be helpful. One more person understanding the truth could stop the persecution; we are closer to the end of the persecution." Then he said, "There must be a way to eliminate the Communist Party of China." The practitioner replied, "Falun Gong practitioners will never do that. We will continue to oppose the persecution in a peaceful and rational way until it is over."
We talked for a long time to two Chinese tourists. After they understood the truth of the persecution and the crimes of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), they said they would withdraw from the organisation.
Through the relentless efforts of Falun Gong practitioners from all parts of the world, more and more tourists of various countries have learned the truth about Falun Gong. Many tourists passed us and greeted us in a friendly way: "Falun Gong is good!", "We know Falun Gong, and you are doing very well."
