Recently, French Member of Parliament Mr. Didier Julia sent a written request to the French Minister of Foreign Affairs. In the request, Mr. Julia condemned the persecution of Falun Gong in China and urged the Government to take action to have China respect human rights. The following is a translation of the request.

Written Request
Mr. Didier Julia requests the attention of the Minister of Foreign Affairs with respect to the repression of Falun Gong practitioners by the Government of the People's Republic of China.
Falun Gong is a method of clean living uniting physical exercises and meditation based on the principles of Truth, Benevolence, and Tolerance. It is specifically something from the Chinese culture and civilization.
Starting in 1999, the Chinese authorities undertook a policy of quasi-systematic repression towards Falun Gong practitioners. Nearly 70 million people have been persecuted (arrests, detentions, torture, labour camp re-education, confinement in psychiatric hospitals, and death following maltreatment).
This policy is an obvious violation of the freedoms of opinion, expression and association that make up a part of fundamental human rights, and consequently are a manifest violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, signed by China.
I would ask him [the Minister] what political and diplomatic means the Government intends to put into action to make the position of the Chinese leaders evolve with respect to human rights, a fundamental basis for any country to advance towards a developed democratic and economic system.
Didier Julia
