On August 20th, 2005, invited by the Chairman of Congress, Latvian Falun Gong practitioners came to Auce City.
The Chief of Police met with practitioners and said that he had already received information about Falun Gong. He decided to provide the largest plaza with the busiest flow of people for practitioners to hold their activity and the specific place was to be decided by practitioners themselves. Upon leaving, the Police Chief said that if there was any way he could help, to just give him a call.
Falun Gong practitioners chose the end of the street where there were more people. A great number of passers-by gathered in front of the display boards that practitioners had set up. Two practitioners demonstrated the five Falun Gong exercises, some distributed leaflets and others talked to interested people.
At the very beginning of the activity, a lady not only listened to practitioners' explanations but she also carefully read the information on each display board. She said, ‘It’s good that you come here.” We gave her a set of documentary VCDs and some leaflets. She then left. After about three hours, she returned and told us, “My daughter and I watched the movie. My daughter cried hard when watching innocent people persecuted.”
Two little girls followed practitioners during the whole activity. They viewed the display boards. When being asked whether they understood, they responded with one voice that they did. They said,“I do. Such things only happen in China.” Falun Gong practitioners did their best to make people understand the importance of what’s happening in China using simple explanations. The world is in need of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. At the end of the activity, the two little girls saw the practitioners off for quite a long distance.
Another young man said, “How strange. Why do I suddenly become so interested? I just happened to walk by. Why do I feel it so meaningful?” He looked very puzzled. Practitioners gave him a lot of material so that he could come to understand.
Though a great number of people watched, a deaf and dumb couple left a deep impression on us. At the beginning, the man was with a thirteen year-old child. He picked up a photo booklet about the persecution and called his son to come over. They together read for quite some time and exchanged opinions with gestures. Fellow practitioners handed over leaflets in Latin and in Russian. Not long afterwards, the man called his wife to come over too. It happened that his wife was Chinese. When she looked at the photo booklets, her husband indicated to practitioners that what is happening in China is terrible. Right! it is hard to believe that such cruel things still happen in the world today. It is simply hard to accept. The couple expressed their thanks to practitioners before they left.
