The second stop on Hu Jintao’s visit to Germany was the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, Dusseldorf, and the nearby industrial hub, Dortmund. Before Hu’s arrival, Falun Gong practitioners at the two cities had started exposing the truth about the persecution happening in China to the local police through applying for petition sites. The German police who learned the truth helped practitioners demonstrate successfully during Hu’s visit and consequently positioned themselves well for the future.
An episode in Dortmund
Hu’s visit to Germany put the police on high alert. Dortmund police arranged a special interview with Falun Gong practitioners about their application for demonstration sites. Practitioners asked to locate the banners and petition at a place where Hu’s motorcade was bound to pass. The chief of the city police bureau then designated a place, which seemed to be the place where the motorcade was least likely to pass. Realising this, practitioners tried to reason with the officer. The police chief insisted that this was definitely the best place according to his experience. So the permission was obtained.
From 10am on the 12th of November, practitioners started to arrive at the permitted location to unfold three banners: “Hu Jintao, the Time Gods and People Gave You is Limited”, “Falun Gong Is Good” and “Bring Those Who Persecute Falun Gong to Justice”, In the afternoon, Hu’s entourage visited an abandoned mine nearby. Sure enough, police started to cordon off the street where practitioners were demonstrating.
When the motorcade was about to pass, a lady from the Chinese visiting group asked the German police escort to stop practitioners from demonstrating and to take the banners away. Practitioners sent righteous thoughts together. Dortmund local police also explained to the escort police that everything, including the petition, the banners and the contents of the banners were all legal and permitted. Under practitioners’ reasoning and with local police help, the escort did not insist. Yet again practitioners raised the banners high. A few minutes later, Hu’s motorcade drove past the banners a few metres away. After the visit the entourage again passed the demonstration as they left, this time facing the banners head-on.

The police asked whether practitioners were satisfied
Leaving the abandoned mine, Hu’s entourage went to visit a distribution centre of a nearby furniture supermarket. At a desolate corner right before his arrival, Hu saw practitioners and the same three banners again. Even though there were not many practitioners waiting, everyone sent forth righteous thoughts. A pure energy field filled the surrounding space.
While waiting for Hu, practitioners talked in depth with the police. The police thanked practitioners for their cooperation and showed understanding and support. Shortly afterwards, Hu’s motorcade returned. Practitioners shouted, “Falun Gong is good! Stop persecuting Falun Gong!”
After the demonstration, the plain-cloth police in charge came over to ask whether the practitioners were satisfied with the results of the demonstration.

Sharing dinner with the police
In Dusseldorf police also showed respect for the practitioners’ peaceful and rational behaviour.
In the evening of the 12th of November, Hu had dinner with the Governor of the State at an old hotel at the city centre. Practitioners held up banners and sent righteous thoughts at the designated location along one side of the hotel. One practitioner opened his eyes in between righteous thoughts and found a German policeman standing in front of him, a pile of ham and cheese sandwiches in his arms. The policeman asked the practitioner: “Aren’t you hungry? Come and have some sandwiches with us.” These sandwiches turned out to be the policemen’s dinner while on duty. They invited practitioners to share.
The banners that could not be hidden
The visiting delegation spared no efforts and applied a lot of pressure on the police in order to prevent Hu from reading the information on the banners. With righteous thoughts and compassion in their hearts, practitioners seized every opportunity to show the banners.
Outside the Hilton Hotel where Hu stayed, the welcome group gathered by the Chinese Embassy squeezed past practitioners, trying to cover up the banners. The police on duty escorted the welcome group away. To validate challenges about the Chinese language on the banners, the police had translators ready on site. As it turned out, all the pro-CCP group’s accusations were fabricated. None of the banners had any problem.
In the morning of the 13th of November, Hu left the hotel in Dusseldorf for the airport. At the moment when his car turned to merge onto the highway, a golden banner appeared in front of him and pronounced in red letters, “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance Are the Law of the Universe.” Practitioners said goodbye to Hu with the slogan “Hu Jintao, the Time God and People Gave You Is Limited.” A few policemen stood silently alongside. After the motorcade left, a policewoman commented, “We understand you well. We know about what is happening in China and that you are peaceful. If I were not duty, I would also take to the streets to protest against the CCP leaders.”
