According to a report by the Epoch Times, on October 23rd, a large rally supporting five million people who quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was held in Cambridge. The event was organised by the Federation for Saying Goodbye to the CCP. The demonstration passed through the Cambridge town centre, and then gathered at King’s College a popular tourist site. It received warm support from the local residents. Many people stopped to read banners and many others signed a petition in support of the Chinese people who quit the CCP.
Many participants made speeches in front of St. Mary's Church at King’s College. A student from the USA sang a song composed by himself at the gathering called “Set Them Free” to show his support for the quitting the CCP campaign. The song was extremely well received.
Another speaker was Ms Xia who lost her relative in the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre. Her cousin Wang Nan was around the Tiananmen Square that day and saw many soldiers and tanks. He took out his camera trying to take a few pictures. However a soldier opened fire on him and a bullet hit his head. Local residents tried to help him, but were stopped by soldiers. When an ambulance arrived, people begged soldiers to let them help him. But they were told that anyone getting close to him would be shot immediately. People helplessly watch this nineteen year old man die. To date, the world still doesn’t know how many people were killed in the early morning of the June 4th 1989. Wang Nan’s mother was put into jail simply because she wore a cloth with words “Never Forget 6.4”.
As part of rally, a signature collection was also held in the Cambridge’s business and shopping centres to support the five million people who quit the CCP. Because the world-renowned Cambridge University is located here, there were many tourists. People were very shocked by the violence and crimes committed by the CCP that were exposed in the posters. Streams of people came to sign on the petition supporting the brave actions of the five million heroes and calling for the great improvement in human rights situation in China.
After signing the petition, a student from China who is studying in Cambridge said he read the “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party” and fully saw through the wicked nature of the CCP. He would be very pleased to see the dissolving of the CCP as soon as possible. This would be good for the Chinese people as well as the whole world. A businessman from Hong Kong was very supportive of this rally. He did some business in China before and knew very well the CCP’s total control of the press and media. When he was in Mainland China, he was unable to receive any TV programmes and radio broadcasts from Hong Kong.
A member of Amnesty International who just passed by said that for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, China must change its human rights situation. He was very concerned about China’s persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
There was another lady who is a lecturer in Luton University. After signing the petition, she took a few copies of the Chinese version of the “Nine Commentaries”. She said she would distribute them in her university because there are lots of Chinese students there. She also said that she would help to collect more signatures in her university.
During the whole activity, the sound of the Freedom bell at the St Mary Church echoed with the quitting CCP slogans and speeches. The banners under the blue sky were especially outstanding in Britain’s highest educational institute that advocates democracy and freedom. Many passers-by stopped to listen to the speeches and showed their support with applauds and thumbs up. Many Chinese students and tourists took leaflets and photos.
