On February 8th, Dr. Peter Yuan Li, a Falun Gong practitioner, was held at gunpoint and violently attacked at his home in Atlanta, Georgia. His computers and documents were stolen. After a neighbour called the police, Li was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and received 15 stitches on his face. Two weeks prior to the attack, the Council of Europe Parliament with 46 member countries passed a resolution condemning human rights violation by totalitarian communist regimes at its meeting in Strasbourg, France. "Totalitarian communist regimes are still active in some countries of the world and crimes continue to be committed," the resolution said. "The Assembly strongly condemns all those violations of human rights."
The CCP's decades of ruling by terror, especially the genocidal persecution of Falun Gong in the last six years, is undoubtedly the most extreme manifestation of crimes by communist regimes. The CCP not only brutally harms innocent people inside China, but also continues to extend the persecution outside of China. Repeatedly, it tries to commit crimes in Western countries that respect freedom and human rights. The attack on Dr. Li is a continuation of this pattern of violence. On June 28th, 2004, during CCP official Zeng Qinghong's visit to South Africa, he hired gunmen to shoot Falun Gong practitioner David Liang. In December of 2005, the CCP's embassies instigated Thai police and thugs to violently attack Falun Gong practitioners.
Falun Gong practitioners strongly protest and condemn these rogue acts by the CCP. We call on the United States government to conduct a comprehensive investigation, and arrest and punish the perpetrators. At the same time, we call on the media, other governments, and the public to keep a close eye on the safety of Falun Gong practitioners, and help prevent the CCP from exporting state-sponsored terrorism into the United States.
The attack on Dr. Li shows that the CCP's persecution against Falun Gong is not only confined to China. This case again confirms that the CCP is the greatest source of communist criminal activity in the world today. Ignoring or holding unrealistic hopes for the CCP for any reason are no different than sanctioning the evil, and will eventually lead to even greater damage.
Over the last six years, Falun Gong practitioners' peaceful and persistent efforts against the persecution have awakened many people. As the truth about the persecution became widely known, Falun Gong has won the admiration of the people in nearly 80 countries and regions. Numerous parliaments, government councils, and NGOs have condemned the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong.
The United States House of Representatives unanimously passed H. Con. Resolution 304, expressing the sense of Congress regarding oppression by the Government of the People's Republic of China against Falun Gong in the United States and in China. The resolution expressed the sense that the Government of the People's Republic of China should immediately stop interfering in the exercise of religious and political freedoms within the United States, such as the right to practise Falun Gong, that are guaranteed by the United States Constitution, cease using its diplomatic missions in the United States to spread falsehoods about the nature of Falun Gong, and release from detention all prisoners of conscience, including practitioners of Falun Gong.
The resolution and many other instances of support show that the international community has a clear understanding of the wicked nature of the CCP and the need to condemn it. Termination of the last strong communist force in the world will lead to more justice, fewer violations of human rights, and higher morality.
