Female Practitioner in Critical Condition after Trying to Escape Torture in Mental Hospital

Changchun City, Jilin Province

On February 10, 2002, a 51-year-old practitioner, Ms. Zhang Binghui, was detained in Changchun City's Kaixuan Hospital, also called Xiaonan Mental Hospital. As Ms. Zhang refused to cooperate with them, those inhumane doctors and nurses relentlessly beat her with an electric baton and other instruments. As a result, Ms. Zhang lost one of her eyes. She was transferred to the Eye Clinic of Changchun City's Centre Hospital, which was on the fifth floor, at the same height as the seventh floor is usually located. In order to escape from the vicious persecution, Ms. Zhang was injured when she jumped off the building. At present, her life is in extreme danger.
