On February 17, 2002, Japanese Falun Dafa practitioner Takehiko Kanai returned to Japan after appealing in Tiananmen Square for Falun Dafa, which has been persecuted for more than two and a half years by Jiang's regime. During the press conference held on February 18 in Tokyo, Takehiko told his story about his arrest and the police brutality in Beijing.
Kanai Takehiko is an accountant at a firm in Tokyo. During the press conference he stated clearly that he did not have any political agenda in going to Beijing. Through his personal experience, he knows that Falun Dafa is a righteous way. The Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Gong is totally illegal and a violation of human rights. The persecution has to stop at once. The main goal of his trip to China was to demand China to stop persecuting Falun Gong and clear the name of Falun Gong. In the meantime, he felt that Chinese people are being deceived by the government's lies and have many misunderstandings of Falun Gong and practitioners, and many people mistakenly think that Falun Gong is also persecuted outside China. To clarify the wrong concepts Chinese people have towards Falun Gong, Takehiko wanted to take the opportunity in Beijing to try his best to let Chinese people to know the truth of Falun Gong, especially the fact that Falun Gong is practiced and welcomed in over 50 countries all over the world. . Lastly he hoped through his actions to awaken more people, especially those in Japanese society, media and government to give more attention to the persecution in China and urge Chinese government to come to a peaceful resolution of the Falun Gong issue.
On February 11, Takehiko arrived alone in Beijing. During his stay in Beijing he made the best use of his time to let people know the truth of Falun Gong. At 2 p.m. on February 14, Takehiko avoided the police interrogation of western tourists at closely guarded Tiananmen Square due to his Asian face, and was able to unfurl the banner with the words, "The World Knows Falun Dafa Is Good!" At the same time, he called out loudly, "The World Knows Falun Dafa Is Good!" Seven or eight policemen grabbed his left arm and dragged him to a police car. He was detained together with western practitioners. The police violated international convention and did not allow practitioners to contact their embassies. In spite of that, practitioners still clarified truth to them with compassion hearts. They told them that Falun Gong is welcomed in over 50 countries. Many policemen were shocked to learn that fact, and some came to realize the truth.
The interrogator could not understand Japanese well, and they could not communicate clearly. Because Takehiko did not tell them the hotel he lived in or give up his passport, he was sent to a detention centre and detained with common criminals. He got first-hand experience of the darkness of Chinese jail. Although there was a language barrier, through writing Chinese words on a piece of paper, he had a chance to clarify the truth to a prisoner and taught him the five exercises.
After Takehiko's brief description of his experience, reporters asked for detailed information about the peaceful appeal in Beijing by him and practitioners from other countries, as well as the changes Falun Dafa brought to him. When asked about his feelings after he started practicing Falun Gong, Takehiko said that the cultivation of Falun Gong has changed his xinxing [mind/heart nature] a great deal. He said that he was hot tempered before, but since he started practicing, he deals with conflicts more peacefully. He felt that he has changed a lot and has become more considerate and understanding of others. However, now the cultivation way that brings peace to society is being brutally persecuted in China. It is incomprehensible. He hopes that the media will pay more attention to the Falun Gong issue.
Reporters from several news agencies attended the press conference.
