On the night of February 8, 2002, as people were happily welcoming the Chinese New Year, the "610" Office and Ganan police from all local police stations started kidnapping Falun Gong practitioners in the county. They arrested all people who had ever practiced Falun Gong before. They asked everyone to write guarantees to quit the practice. Those who refused would be dismissed from their jobs or sent to labour camps. They beat and swore at people wherever they went. Nearly one hundred families were violated in this way.
Zhao Yanhai and more than several dozen police from the Second Police Station of Ganan illegally broke into Falun Dafa practitioner Lao Song's house. They beat and dragged Lao Song to a police car without even questioning him. Lao Song's wife and children stepped forward to stop them and were beaten to the ground. Upon watching this, many people felt angry.
