Under invitation from Lee Kuan Yew, Chinese official Li Lanqing will go to Singapore to receive a honorary doctorate in literature from the National University of Singapore on July 6th, 2006. Falun Gong practitioners sent an open advice to Lee Kuan Yew regarding his invitation and some recent incidents. Their letter is as follows:
Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew,
According to a report titled "Li Lanqing Becomes First Chinese Person to Receive an Honorary Doctorate in Literature from National University of Singapore" on May 3rd, Li was under your invitation.
It has been seven years since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched a persecution against Falun Gong in July 1999. Lawsuits have been filed around the world against the chief perpetrator Jiang Zemin and his followers for torture, crimes against humanity, genocide, libel and inciting hatred. Li Lanqing, as head of the CCP's Gestapo-like organisation 610 Office, has been sued in the United States, France, Belgium, Taiwan, Germany, Canada, New Zealand, Chile, Holland, Japan, Sweden and other countries. In addition, Li Lanqing, together with Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing, Bo Xilai and other officials, are on the watch list of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). If anyone of them attempts to enter Canada, a prompt investigation can take place.
Since July 20th, 1999, the CCP has been utilising all state apparatus, including radio, TV, newspapers, the public security system, the judiciary system, jails, police, the military, secret agents, the educational system, and diplomacy to engage in an unbridled persecution of Falun Gong. A self-immolation incident on Tiananmen Square was also staged to deceive people. Thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have died from the persecution and countless practitioners have been forced to leave their homes to avoid further persecution.
In March, the media exposed the CCP's shocking crime of harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners. Chinese forced labour camps and police hospitals, including armed police hospitals, collude with intermediary organ-selling agencies to commit the collective crime of harvesting Falun Gong practitioners' livers, kidneys, corneas, hearts and other organs before tossing their bodies into crematoriums. Many people know that live organ transplant has become a large lucrative business in China in recent years. However, they don't know that Falun Gong practitioners, who have been illegally detained, have become the basis of this business!
Such atrocities are still occuring today. The role of the 610 Office is the equivalent to that of the Gestapo. It does not only bring shame to the National University of Singapore but also to the Singapore people in awarding an honorary doctorate to a murderer!
We have witnessed your role of assisting the CCP with the persecution of Falun Gong to please the evil regime in the past few years. You have expressed your stance at interviews and openly made distorting comments about Falun Gong. The slandering of Falun Gong in government-controlled media has also deceived countless Singapore people. The two unjustifiable lawsuits against Falun Gong by police in 2001 and 2004 have put the crime of assisting in this persecution on the shoulders of many innocent policemen, prosecutors, judges, lawyers and government officials who haven't learned the true story.
During the lawsuits against two Falun Gong practitioners in April 2004, practitioners spent five months patiently clarifying the truth to you and related departments and advised you not to make a great mistake. This was ignored. Falun Gong practitioners further clarified the truth at the courts. A simple case went through a tough fifteen-day trial. However, you regard Falun Gong practitioners' patience, kindness, compassion and tolerance as weakness. You acted arbitrarily and missed another chance to position yourself and Singapore well.
Without much evidence provided during the trial, the Subordinate Courts ruled that all the defendants were guilty and fined them the maximum amount possible. Two practitioners were even sentenced to prison. The practitioners appealed to the Supreme Court, where your good friend, the then chief justice, Yong Pung How evaded important points in answering the defendants' lawyer's appeal and made a ruling based on politics.
During May of last year, Falun Gong practitioners gathered in front of embassies of Singapore across the world to support two practitioners holding a hunger strike in Changyi Women's Prison. The practitioners warned "Singapore, don't be an accomplice of the CCP". However, only The Epoch Times covered this event in Singapore. Other media in Singapore, under the control of the government, kept silent.
If you did not trade Falun Gong for better relations with the CCP, practitioners would forget about these mistakes with compassion and tolerance. Unfortunately, your behaviour over the last one year plus is disappointing: your trusted Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Wong Kan Seng slandered our truth-clarification activities. Foreign Minister Yong-Boon Yeo also slandered Falun Gong to flatter the CCP.
During the last year, Falun Gong practitioners have contacted police and government officials and helped many of them know the truth so they have not participate in the persecution of Falun Gong. We were offered a little better environment to some degree, which helped many predestined people understand the truth about Falun Gong.
But recently, the situation became tense again. As we get closer to Li Lanqing's visit to Singapore, things have gotten worse. Police and the certificate issuance department put pressure on Falun Gong practitioners at the same time. In recent days, police have taken photos and video footage of practitioners, they have forcefully removed posters and interrogated practitioners in police stations. The police department has also dispatched many armed police to places where there were only one or two practitioners.
Not long ago, police told us that each person could carry two poster boards. Now a new police officer told us that each person could only carry one poster board. There is no such law governing the number of posters one can carry in Singapore. It seems that the police are making up laws and regulations for Falun Gong arbitrarily.
For those practitioners holding Chinese passports who participate in truth-clarification activities, the Singapore government exerts pressure on them by denying them extension of their certificates or by not issuing them at all. For those who continue participating, the Singapore government has resorted to cancelling their residency permits and repatriating them. The government has done this to family members of Falun Gong practitioners after pressure and intimidation against the practitioners have failed.
Minister Lee Kuan Yew: all Falun Gong practitioners and righteous people around the world are watching you. Taking an initiative to participate in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners is a great crime, and it will forever bring you a bad reputation. Even if you do not care, we ask you to think of your family, as well as the well-being of those police officers and government officials. Keep them from committing sins.
It has been several years since Falun Gong practitioners have been tirelessly clarifying the truth, yet many people in Singapore still have misunderstandings of and discriminate against Falun Gong. Your attitude towards Falun Gong plays a major role in this situation, because in this country, your attitude shapes the law, the policies, and directly influences the orientation of the media.
However, with your present influence over the country, you are also the one who is able to correct this mistake. So long as you no longer insist on your above mentioned way of handling things, no longer coerce government officials to commit crimes against Falun Gong, no longer forcibly deprive Falun Gong practitioners of our legal rights endowed under the Singapore Constitution, and allow practitioners to enjoy a free environment for truth clarification, the Singapore people's misunderstanding of Falun Gong will be abated, and there will be a great positive impact on the people in Singapore.
We once again hope that you will think it over and change course.
