On September 9th, 2006, Falun Gong practitioners from Rhode Island attended the annual "Taiwan Day Dragon Boat Festival" in Pawtucket. Last year, due to the Chinese Communist Party’s propaganda, a few Chinese people that didn’t know the truth about Falun Gong interfered with practitioners’ application for a booth at the festival. Practitioners kept clarifying the truth, and the situation has become better and better. More and more Western and Chinese people have learned the truth, and this year the community welcomed Falun Gong practitioners to attend the festival.

Clarifying the truth

Practitioners passed out truth-clarifying materials, demonstrated the exercises and taught people how to make folded paper lotus flowers. People who came to the practitioners’ booth and learned the truth included tourists; 35 dragon boat teams from New England and New York; Congressman Patrick Kennedy from Rhode Island; Lt. Governor Charles Fogarty of Rhode Island; Bob Billington, tourism director; and Yang Guodong, the chief of Taiwan Culture and Commerce Office in Rhode Island.

A five-year-old girl came to the booth with her parents. She learned how to make a folded paper lotus flower. She and her parents were very happy and thanked the practitioners for their help.

A Caucasian family came to the booth with two adopted Chinese children. They told practitioners that they wanted their children to learn Chinese culture. They learned the principle of Falun Gong - "Truthfulness - Compassion - Forbearance" and learned about the brutal persecution of Falun Gong in China. They told practitioners that they would attend the free Falun Gong workshop in the public library and let their children learn real Chinese culture.
