On January 26th, 2007, supporters of NTDTV and its Chinese New Year Spectacular held a press conference and rally in front of the Chinese Consulate to condemn the CCP’s suppression of media freedom, and its slandering and instigating hatred. Recently, the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles took various means to interfere with the New Tang Dynasty TV (NTDTV) Spectacular evening shows.
NTDTV’s 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular evening shows were held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, California. The host organisation indicated that the CCP’s Consulate in Los Angeles took various means to interfere with the shows, including writing slanderous letters to media and government officials, and exerting pressure on sponsors.
At 11 a.m. on January 26th, staff of the NTDTV Los Angeles station, volunteers for the Spectacular, supporters of NTDTV, and media held a rally in front of the consulate and condemned CCP’s wicked actions.
NTDTV’s Rising and the CCP’s Panic
Frank Cai, a representative for NTDTV station in Los Angeles, said, "Why does the CCP fear such a popular show? The fundamental reason is that NTDTV provides accurate information to Chinese people, help Chinese people overseas merge into mainstream society, improve understanding between East and West, and promote the diversity of Chinese media and free flow of information. The CCP’s totalitarian regime cannot tolerate NTDTV’s independent voice. The CCP is afraid of people’s knowing about the CCP’s persecution of Chinese people and damage to Chinese traditional culture. We call on the media, governmental officials and the public to support NTDTV, investigate the CCP’s crimes, and help stop the CCP’s interference."
Ignoring the Chinese Consulate, more than one hundred political figures watched the NTDTV evening performances. The shows received dozens of proclamations and congratulatory letters.
The Chinese Consulate’s Interference Violates US Law
Mr. Wu Fan, supporter of NTDTV and editor-in-chief of China Affairs, strongly protested the CCP’s unlawful interference. A female officer at the Chinese Consulate wrote letters to sponsors of the NTDTV Spectacular and asked them to stop sponsoring the show. Mr. Wu said, "Such spying actions are outside of the proper behaviour for diplomats. I want to stress that all staff and volunteers for NTDTV are US citizens and residents, who are protected by the US constitution and law. We have the right of freedom of speech. We cannot tolerate a foreign government’s diplomats attempting to damage and interfere with US citizens’ rights. Such actions violate US law. We ask the US government to pay attention to the incident."
The CCP Is An Anti-China Force
Mr. Wu Yongnian, a professor at the University of California at Los Angeles said, "Diplomats at the Chinese Consulate, including Zhou Xiaomei, interfered with Falun Gong practitioners’ normal social and cultural activities. The consulate’s actions infringe upon the practitioners’ basic human rights and are an extension of the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. We strongly condemn and call for an end of such unlawful actions. The CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20th, 1999. More than 3000 innocent people have been tortured to death for persisting in their belief of "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance". More than 100,000 practitioners were sent to forced labour camps and prisons."
Regarding the CCP’s framing of many social organisations and Falun Gong as anti-China forces, Mr. Wu said, "The CCP regime demonizes those protesting the CCP’s tyranny as "anti-China forces". Here I want to tell you that the CCP is the true anti-China force. Under the control of the criminal CCP gang during the past half century, more than 80 million Chinese people were persecuted or starved to death. The persecution of Falun Gong is the biggest human rights violation of all. The CCP gang persecutes the Chinese people. Just as Nazis cannot represent Germany, the CCP cannot represent the Chinese people and China. The CCP is the true anti-China force."
