World Journal Daily reported from New Jersey on March 30, 2002 -- Over 20 New Jersey practitioners gathered in front of the Trenton City Council Building to hold a news conference calling upon US and New Jersey governments to show concern for the illegal mass arresting and killing of Falun Gong practitioners in Changchun. The activity also gained supports from several New Jersey officials including State representative Reed Gusciora and Mr. Cordon representing Congressman Chris Smith. They all resolutely condemned the Chinese government's violation of basic human rights.
Falun Gong practitioners in Changchun City of Jinlin province broadcasted Falun Gong truth-clarifying programs for about 50 minutes on March 5 through Changchun's cable TV network. The incidence surprised millions of Changchun residents and also angered Jiang's regime. Since then the city has rounded up thousands of practitioners.
Ms. Li Li, a practitioner from New Jersey who hosted the news conference, said that news from China said that since Jiang Zemin ordered police to "kill without pardon," an estimated 5000 practitioners have been arrested; the three practitioners who were suspected to have broken into the cable system were arrested and sentenced to death.
She called upon the international community to concern the mass arresting of Falun Gong practitioners. Li Li said Changchun is where Falun Gong originated, and there are many people practicing Falun Gong in that area. Practitioners around the world worry that the Chinese government's action will result in arrests and death sentences of many innocent Falun Gong practitioners without fair trials.
Representative Reed Gusciora stated that the State Senate already passed Resolution No. 21 demanding Chinese government to release arrested Falun Gong practitioners, and that several representatives will also cosponsor a resolution to condemn the brutal persecution.
Mr. Cordon also made a statement on behalf of Congressman Smith to strongly condemn the Jiang regime's violation of human rights and attempts to arrest American citizens and residents on groundless charges. Dr. Teng Chunyan who is still detained in China is one example.
