Proclamation
In Honor of World Falun Dafa Day
Whereas: Since it was first introduced to the public in 1992 in China, the practice of Falun Dafa has encouraged its practitioners to live in accord to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance.
Whereas, I am delighted to recognise the 8th Annual Falun Dafa Day, a historic event that will help create awareness about the many unique traditions and diverse cultures that exist in New York State; and
Whereas, Falun Dafa is a special programme of exercises and meditation that improve energy circulation in the body and emphasises the cultivation of moral character through understanding the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance, and since its introduction to the public in 1992 by Mr. Li Hongzhi, it has been practiced by more than 100 million people in 60 nations; and
Whereas, the special programme has helped people throughout the world, including many in New York State, to improve their health, uplift their spirits, and deepen their appreciation of life and humanity; and
Whereas, the campaign to eradicate Falun Gong that began in 1999 has caused tremendous suffering of its practitioners through violence and brutality against innocent practitioners; and
Whereas, since 1999 thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been taken from their homes, brutally tortured, imprisoned in China's Laogai, and even killed; and
Whereas, we commemorate the suffering and to celebrate the courage of Falun Gong Practitioners who are worthy of our highest respect and esteem; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, that I, State Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz, Sr., celebrate the 8th Annual World Falun Dafa Day in Union Square Park in New York City, today, May 13, 2007; and be it further
Resolved, that a copy of this proclamation be transmitted to Jeanne Mitchell during today's celebration.
