Germany: Human Rights Organisation Debates the Human Rights Situation in China

On May 14th, 2007, the day before the human rights talks between the EU and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) were held, many human rights organisations gathered in Berlin, Germany, condemning the CCP's violations of human rights. The Asian affairs director of the “Organisation supporting threatened groups” (which is an organisation based in Goettingen, Germany), Ulrich Delius, could not attend the gathering and sent a letter of support instead. In his letter, Delius said that since the human rights talks between EU and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began in 1996, the state of human rights in China has not improved in eleven years.

Citing the persecution of Falun Gong as an example, Delius explained that there is a system of injustice within the CCP totalitarian government and this system can never be changed. The cruel torture inside Chinese jails and labour camps represents the wicked ways that are frequently used by the CCP government, which must be abolished completely.

Delius also pointed out that for the last eight years, the persecution of Falun Gong has never stopped in China, and at least 3000 Falun Gong practitioners were tortured to death or died by other methods of persecution. This shows that CCP government has never intended to change the human rights conditions. The persecution of Falun Gong has became more and more severe in the last eight years since the beginning of the persecution 20th July 1999, tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested, detained and tortured in labour camp. Their families also suffer discrimination and humiliation.
Delius said that the “Organisation supporting threatened groups” strongly condemns the CCP government for overriding the freedom of belief which is protected by law and the systematic persecution of such a peaceful cultivate practice group that has tens of thousands of members.

Delius also said that “Organisation supporting threatened groups” will do their best to make sure that the prime criminals who are responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong will be cracked down on:
“Those policemen who are involved in the torture of Falun Gong practitioners were not held responsible effectively; indeed, they were actually rewarded instead of getting punished. The CCP government not only violates its own law, but also violates international law. We will try our best to bring the prime criminals who are responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong to justice.”

Delius also appealed to the EU that if the CCP government does not improve the human rights situation in China significantly, EU should indeed stop these talks:

The EU should work hard to make this human rights talk useful to help the Chinese people. This talk should not become the fig leaf of how the EU compromised under the pressure of the CCP government before these talks commenced, Belgium has already bent their knees to the CCP government by disallowing the Dalai Lama to enter the country, it is a disgrace for the whole Europe. This is the eleventh year since the EU began human rights talk with China, the EU must send a signal to the CCP government: if the CCP government does not improve the human rights situation in China significantly, EU should stop these talks.

Other human rights organisations which joined this gathering including the “International Society for Human Rights”, “Human Rights Without Borders”, “the Movement of the Freedom of Culture in China” together with the persecuted group “Falun Gong”. The gathering in front of the Brandenburg Gate aims at revealing how the CCP has violated human rights as well as calling for the EU to condemn the CCP and take efficient steps regarding the current unchanged situation.
