On June 8th, 2007, the New York University Chinese Culture Club, NYUCCC, published an open statement which attempted to discredit the New Tang Dynasty Television's (NTDTV) International Chinese Classical Dance Competition and which indicated the group's intention to interfere with the competition. The NYUCCC also forwarded the statement via emails to overseas Chinese students at the Columbia University Chinese Students and Scholars Association, CUCSSA.
Regarding this, spokesperson for NTDTV Carrie Huang said that the International Chinese Classical Dance Competition to be held on July 6th-8th, 2007 at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University, aims to promote Chinese dance and revive authentic Chinese culture. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been interfering with and suppressing NTDTV by various means. She welcomed all students to come to watch the competition and make their own judgment.
Former Chinese diplomat of the Sydney Chinese Consulate, Chen Yonglin, pointed out, "The NYUCCC's public letter is about the same as a document issued by the Ministry of Propaganda of the CCP." The club is actually an organisation planned and set up by the Chinese Consulate General in New York to suppress activities held by NTDTV, because NTDTV has aired many facts about the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong to the world, which the CCP fears the most.
NTDTV: Welcome Overseas Chinese Students to Watch and Decide for Themselves
The spokesperson for NTDTV said that the CCP has been using various means to harass and repress any activities held by NTDTV. They use such a tactic to delude students. The purpose of the Dance Competition is to promote Chinese dance, giving to all people the purely compassionate and purely beautiful art of dance, and to move Chinese dance to the world stage and revive authentic Chinese culture.
She stated that the International Chinese Classical Dance Competition is an extension of the NTDTV Global Chinese New Year Spectacular. The 2007, the Chinese New Year Spectacular was performed in over 30 cities around the world. More than 200,000 people watched the live show and were deeply touched by the authentic Chinese culture showcased by the performances. The spectacular shows have also received high praise from political circles, various businesses and people from cultural, educational, artistic and media fields.
Carrie Huang said, "We welcome all people, overseas students, scholars, westerners and Chinese people to watch the Dance Competition. Let them use their own eyes to decide for themselves."
The Reasons that the CCP Interferes with NTDTV Dance Competition
Former Chinese diplomat Chen Yonglin pointed out that the CCP's suppression of Falun Gong is very cruel, while NTDTV has exposed and reported many facts about the persecution of Falun Gong to the entire world, which the CCP fears the most. So undoubtedly, the CCP will use various tactics to interfere with any activities held by NTDTV. The first thing that the CCP embassies and consulates do is to exert pressure on local authorities so as to make it impossible for the activities to be held.
Chen Yonglin said that he has seen NTDTV's Chinese New Year Spectacular. Under the Communist dictatorship, the performance is like a breath of fresh air, providing Chinese people a very good choice.
Communist Party Is a Synonymous with Evil in the West
Chen Yonglin mentioned that the regulations of the NTDTV International Chinese Classical Dance Competition stated that "all songs and music that eulogise the Communist Party will be prohibited during this competition." This was considered by the NYUCCC as being political and anti-China, splitting the nation and subverting the Republic of China.
Chen Yonglin said, "It is ridiculous that a dance competition would be denigrated to such an extent."
He said that the Communist Party is based on violence and lies, and is a criminal group against humanity. The words "Communist Party" are synonymous with evil in Western society. So it is completely reasonable for the Dance Competition to prohibit any songs or music that eulogise the Communist Party.
Chen Yonglin said that the CCP is not China. Many overseas Chinese students have received the Communist Party's brainwashing education since their childhood, and do not have a clear understanding of the CCP, believing doing their best for the CCP is serving the motherland and people, and serving the Chinese nation. It is a muddled thought.
He said that many overseas Chinese students do not have an objective and clear understanding of the CCP. This because the history they have learned has been deleted and tampered with by the CCP, so he recommended overseas Chinese students read the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. The book objectively, truly and profoundly tells of the entire history of the CCP.
Chen Yonglin: NYUCCC Is an Organisation of the Chinese Consulate
Chen Yonglin said that the NYUCCC is actually supported and set up by the Department of Education at the Chinese Consulate General in New York. The main task of the Department of Education is to control and manage overseas Chinese students, cooperating with it to suppress organisations and individuals not in favour with the CCP. It is actually an extension of the CCP regime overseas.
Chen Yonglin explained that there were several ways in which the CCP manipulates overseas Chinese student organisations, including providing funding for club activities, providing scholarships to Chinese students who dutifully toe the party line, giving them free tickets to entertainment events and writing reference letters for those who want to return to China for jobs and so on.
Chen Yonglin said that the consulates and embassies do not directly protest the universities, but use student organisations, with a neutral name, to exert pressure on the university authorities, and then use the university to oppose the targeted groups. This is what the CCP wants.
Partial Examples of the CCP Suppressing NTDTV
The wife of a Chinese diplomat in the Chinese Embassy in Canada Zhang Jiyan defected from the Chinese Embassy on March 5th, 2007 and brought out a document entitled, "Investigation and Negotiating Regarding 'NTDTV' Attempts to Join Cable Television Network." The document showed that the Chinese Embassy once lobbied related departments of the Canadian Government and prompted local pro-Communist Chinese community and overseas Chinese students to write letters to object to NTDTV's entry into Canada, and required the embassy to mail materials slandering Falun Gong to the above mentioned related departments and people.
In May 2005, Eutelsat, under the CCP's pressure, raised harsh conditions for NTDTV so that the renewal of the contract would fail. After Eutelsat announced stopping the renewal of the contract with NTDTV, it obtained a large number of contracts from the CCP. Later, with much support from around the world that NTDTV received, both sides resumed the renewal of the contract.
In early July 2007, Korea National Theatre sent a document to NTDTV Korea requesting that it cancel the performance contract with NTDTV, using an excuse of incomplete procedures. They admitted that they had received pressure from the Chinese Embassy. Major media in Korea confirmed the above facts and reported on it.
