(Translated Version)
Dear Mr. XX:
Everyday, I read some news about the persecution and abuse of Falun Gong practitioners and other religious groups, including the oppression of Buddhists in Tibet, Moslems in Shinjiang, Christians and Catholics. Some of them were even tortured to death. It is hard to describe how horrifying it is to read this kind of news.
Being an admirer of the profundity and longevity of Chinese culture, I totally cannot understand why Jiang Zemins administration ignored the civil rights endorsed by the nation to persecute, in particular Falun Gong practitioners, and even torture them to death in recent years. Recently, Falun Gong practitioners from other countries were also intimidated and abused in China.
This kind of act is absolutely unbelievable and disgusting in countries other than China. It has gravely damaged Chinas reputation in the world, and had a negative effect on Chinas profound and exquisite culture. It is unconceivable that the belief in the highest values of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, would endanger their lives.
In view of human dignity, I call on you to do your utmost to help realize the following:
-- Take a peaceful approach to immediately stop the frenzied persecution of Falun Gong practitioners;
-- Guarantee the safety of all those who were arrested by the police in the incident of Falun Gongs breaking onto the airwaves in Changchun. Publicize their names and whereabouts;
-- Guarantee all those who are imprisoned can be immediately visited by their lawyers and families. Ensure they can receive necessary medical care.
I look forward to the authorities immediate release, without any condition, of all the Falun Gong practitioners who are incarcerated simply for their exercise of basic human rights. In the meantime, I am worried about the continued reports about the cruel torture of Falun Gong practitioners and other grave human rights violations. I call for the authorities to prosecute those who should be responsible for the persecution.
As a German citizen who has undergone World War II and the post-war period, I foresee that the abuse of power will not last long, and is bound to pay its price in the future. I hope you are able to sense that the abuse of power is against peoples will, and that local authorities act of antagonism towards the Chinese people is also intolerable.
I appreciate your consideration of these international human right affairs that are closely related to every single one of us.
Respectfully yours,
A German Citizen
