Falun Gong practitioners perform Chinese folk dance |
The Lotus Performing Art Troupe is composed of Falun Gong practitioners. The troupe brought to the event demonstrations of the Lion and Kylin Dance, Chinese traditional dance, ancient Zheng, waist drum and Falun Gong, a cultivation system from ancient China.
The opening performance from the Lotus Performing Art Troupe was the Lion and Kylin dance. With drum beats and gong sounds, it immediately attracted many visitors. "This is the first time we added the kylin into lion dance. Kylin is a sacred beast in China," said one lion dance performer, "Its movements are different from a lion and because one's vision is very limited, it is difficult to perform this dance." In ancient China, Kylin always appears when a saint lives in that area. It represents peace and benevolence and can bring prosperity to the people. When the saint is attacked by evil beings, Kylin will protect the saint and fight the evil beings with its mighty power.
Executive Director of the Toronto Community Folk Art Committee, Ms. Wendy Limbertie, recommended Falun Gong to the audience after the Lotus Performing Art Troupe's performances. She suggested that everyone learn about Falun Gong because it will bring one happiness and health.
