Mr. Wöllert, an employee at a public relations firm, made a special trip to Frankfurt to see the “Chinese Spectacular”, the performance by the Divine Performing Arts Company on February 16th in the Frankfurt Century Hall.
The dance company is made up of overseas Chinese, who made it their goal to revive ancient Chinese traditional culture. Wöllert was most impressed with the drum scenes performed by the group of artists. “What I liked most throughout the show was the perfect interaction between choreography and dance, which was done very well. One barely notices what power is behind all this.”
He continued, “The other thing I was most impressed with was the political theme that was shown in two dance scenes. This was done extremely well. The choreography of the second one of the two scenes was done especially well, mainly how the three principles “Truthfulness, Benevolence, Forbearance” were brought into the scene. It was very impressive. The choreography was done so well, without appearing deliberate, although it addressed a very serious issue.
Mr. Meyer’s colleague was fascinated by the drum scenes and said “Without a doubt, they were fascinating.” He also found the scene Forsythia in spring as well as other scenes quite interesting. “Also, the back drop with all the pictures associated with the particular scene, were very helpful by showing the German translation of the songs. One was able to read along while listening to the song.” The classical scenes were highly praised, “The Tenor Guimin Guan appears to be very well known in China. I found him to be excellent, despite not having heard of him in the past.
The two comperes left another positive impression with the public relations employees, especially with the way they addressed the audience. “It was rather funny. For example, they asked in the beginning of the show if the people in the audience believed in destiny or if they didn’t believe in it at all. I hadn’t raised my hand when they announced a third option to those who had not lifted their hand.” The audience went along quite well with this. “I felt that this loosened the atmosphere. I also liked that the two comperes talked with each other and used a familiar tone. One noticed that they get along quite well. Their geniality comes through quite well.”
