Falun Gong Practitioner Tortured to Death in Ziyang City

According to an April 10th news report from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, a Falun Gong practitioner named He Zhenyue was tortured to death during his illegal confinement at Chengdu City Detention Centre. To date, at least 405 Falun Gong practitioners have died from the Jiang regime's political persecution.

He Zhenyue was a 35 year-old male. He had earned a bachelor's degree from Sichuan Geology College. He was sub-team chief of the Ziyang City Well-stabilizing Team's No. 2 Department of Geology Ministry, an electrical engineer who had been presented with many honours, such as "Excellent Official Award" and "Outstanding Worker Award," and a Party member. Ever since middle school, Mr. He had searched earnestly for the truth of life. It was not until February 1999, when he read the book Zhuan Falun [The main text of Falun Gong] that he finally found what he was looking for. From then on, he started on the path of Falun Dafa cultivation with determination. He used the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance" as his standard of conduct and he thought of others before himself at all times. Mr. He would sacrifice his own interest for the sake of others and was highly regarded by his colleagues.

In May 2000, He Zhenyue went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for a stop to the persecution of Falun Gong. As a result, his work unit fired him and fined him 7,000 Yuan [about US$87; $50 is the monthly average urban income in China]. In December of the same year he went to Tiananmen Square, peacefully appealed for the second time and was brutally beaten. After several days of a hunger strike he was unconditionally released. After that, he was forced to leave home in order to avoid further persecution and keep doing the work of truth-clarification.

During the night of February 3, 2002, police surrounded a Falun Dafa materials site at Jiaoshiyuan, Jiuliti in Chengdu City. Five young practitioners were present at the time, including He Zhenyue, Wang Kai and Wu Mingzhong. The lawless police officers broke the iron bars on the window, smashed in both the front and back doors, broke into the room and brutally beat the practitioners. The thugs also kidnapped the practitioners and illegally detained them. The arrested practitioners all refused to give their identities to the police, held hunger strikes and didn't cooperate […]. They have been illegally detained since then. At 3 p.m. on April 10, Chengdu City Detention Centre authorities informed the National Security Team of Ziyang City Police Department that He Zhenyue had died in the detention centre. The details are still unclear.
