On Sunday July 13, 2008, I went shopping after completing the Falun Dafa exercises and taking care of housework. While I was out I looked for opportunities to persuade people to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organizations. I saw a man in his thirties selling plums on the street. From his clothing and demeanour, he didn't look like a street vendor, but more like a government employee. Based on my experience, I thought it would be hard to clarify the truth to him and I would normally have just passed him by. But this day, I thought that if I didn't try to explain the facts about Falun Gong to him, he may not have another opportunity. So I went to his cart to look at the plumbs and started talking with him.
I spoke about topics relating to the Chinese characters that were embedded in stone, which when translated, read "the Chinese Communist Party perishes," and also informed him that Heaven will soon destroy the CCP(chinese communist party). As I explained things to him, he acknowledged me while helping me to pick out some plumbs. When I was about to pay him, I wanted to give him a chance to quit the CCP, but just then a lady came over to buy some plumbs and was talking very loudly. I realized it was not a good opportunity to ask him to quit the CCP, as everyone in China is concerned with what others think and say. When a third person is present, almost nobody will say what they really feel. I had to take care of other things, so I left it there, and decided to return a little while later. As I had not managed to persuade the man to quit the CCP, I asked Teacher to strengthen me and not to let him leave.
When I returned to the street vendor I noticed that a little girl was standing next to him. I knew this was Teacher's benevolent arrangement and I was encouraged. With a big smile, I said, "Hi brother. You are still here? I was busy just now and forgot to ask you something. Have you joined the CCP?" He replied with a smile that he hadn't. Then I asked him whether he had joined the Youth League. He replied "Yes." I continued, "For your family's safety, please quit the Youth League. Don't go with the CCP to its tomb!" With a beam on his face, he replied, "I quit! I quit!"
I said goodbye to him and his daughter, then headed home to send forth righteous thoughts at noon. However, I didn't wear a watch, so couldn't tell what time it was. I rushed to get home on my bicycle, saying to myself, "Even if I miss the time for righteous thoughts, it was still worth it because a person who deserved to be saved, was saved." When I arrived home, I looked at the clock. It was 11:55 a.m. The exact time for righteous thoughts! My attachment of being too engrossed came out, as I was overjoyed. I kept muttering, "A person was saved. And I didn't miss the time for righteous thoughts. Thank you Teacher for holding back the time for me! Thank you Teacher for holding back the time for me!" I kept repeating this to myself while putting my groceries on the kitchen table. Then suddenly, splash! A bag of eggs fell on the floor and broke. Why did this happen?
After sending righteous thoughts, as I looked inward to find my gaps, I noticed I had the attachment of being overjoyed. Teacher told us,
"The old forces don't dare to oppose our clarifying the truth or saving sentient beings. What's key is to not let them take advantage of the gaps in your state of mind when you do things." ("Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Boston")
The bag of eggs breaking helped me understand this Fa at a higher level. I became overjoyed after persuading a few people to quit the CCP, and not missing the time for righteous thoughts. Our fellow practitioners are doing the three things every day and they have persuaded thousands of people to quit the CCP. If they were all overjoyed, how could they handle that? If we don't eliminate this attachment, how can we reach consummation?
This is my understanding that I share with fellow practitioners. Please point out anything incorrect.
