On July 20, 1999, dictator Jiang began the persecution of Falun Gong. In order to let the government officials know about the physical and moral changes in her, Ms. Yu went to Beijing to appeal. She was arrested and escorted back by police from Jilin City's Police Department. She suffered inhuman tortures. Because she refused to give up Falun Dafa, she was expelled from the Party and fired from work; in addition, she was illegally sentenced to five years in jail. She protested and appealed, but no lawyer dared to speak for Falun Gong. In Jilin Province Female Labour Camp she was tied onto a bed for four months, and she also held a hunger strike for four months.
She was released in October 2001 because she was on the verge of death. After she returned home, the local police often went to her home to harass her, so Ms. Yu was forced to leave home and roam about to escape further persecution. On March 5, 2002, the police arrested her in her rented home. Police personnel at Jilin City Zhihe Police Station exhausted all kinds of brutal tortures on the very thin Ms. Yu, such as the "Tiger Bench." [Practitioners are forced to sit on a small iron bench that is approximately 20 cm (6 inches) tall. Practitioners' knees are tightly tied on the small bench - "Tiger Bench." He has to sit straight up with his eyes looking straight ahead. His hands are tied behind his back or sometimes placed on his knees. Usually some hard objects are inserted underneath the practitioner's lower legs or ankles to make it harder for them to tolerate this abuse Additionally, they tightly tied up Ms. Yu's whole body with ropes [note: Chinese name of this torture method is "Shang Da Gua"]. More than once, Ms. Yu was at death's door because of the tortures.
On March 8, 2002, Ms. Yu was again sent to Jilin Province Female Jail, where she began another hunger strike. Later, she was sent into Jilin Province Police Hospital. At that time, her blood pressure could not be measured; yet the police wouldn't release her. The staff at the police hospital injected her with drugs that destroy the central nervous system. On April 5, Ms. Yu was in a coma and her body was convulsing. The staff cut open her veins to inject her with drugs. After being wrongfully and inhumanly tortured, on May 5, 2002, Ms. Yu passed away after 66 days on a hunger strike. She left behind her 70-year-old mother-in-law and 8-year-old daughter. On the day Ms. Yu passed away, her mother-in-law repeatedly begged the official(s) at Changchun City's Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp to allow Ms. Yu's husband Liu Hongwei to meet Ms. Yu for the last time. Ms. Yu's husband had been illegally sentenced to two years of forced labour for practicing Dafa and was detained at the Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp at that time; however, her request was denied.
We hope all kind-hearted people around the world will please speak out for Falun Dafa. Please rescue the thousands of practitioners like Ms. Yu Lixin, who are struggling to survive in these horrible conditions.
