The Divine Performing Arts 2009 World Tour graced the stage at the Place des Arts on Friday, January 16th, for the first of four performances in Montreal. Among the audience members was Ms. Halas, a ceramic artist, who was inspired by the show.

She really liked the music. "I think the music ... attracts me the most, because it speaks to everyone's heart. It's something that reaches inside you and speaks to you in different ways."

The Divine Performing Arts orchestra uses Western and Chinese instruments to create unique and beautiful harmonies. Currently, it is the only orchestra in the world that combines both Western and Chinese instruments.

Of the performance in general, Ms. Halas said, "It's very interesting. It's very moving. Really ... the expressions on their faces when they're performing ... that inspires. You can tell when someone's happy when they're doing these things, so I find that inspiring."

She also commented on the costumes saying, "Beautiful, very beautiful. Yes, that is inspiring."

When asked what her favourite piece was she said, 'I liked the ones with the drums. It really said something to me."

Ms. Halas also mentioned the digital backdrops, saying, "I've been watching it when it changes, and it helps to understand what is going, because they're all singing in Chinese and I don't understand Chinese, so it helps so you understand what it's about."

The digital backdrops give each scene an added visual depth and grandeur. Each backdrop is custom-designed to match exactly a given dance's costumes, story line, lighting, and choreography.

Divine Performing Arts is scheduled to stage three more shows in Montreal's Place des Arts this weekend: Saturday, January 17, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
