Divine Performing Arts (DPA) made its first appearance at The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College in Purchase, New York on January 23rd, 2009.
"I Can't Believe What I Just Saw!"
Julie Bohl, Director of Corporate Relations in the human resources department of her company, was blown away by the DPA show, saying, "The colours are so magnificent! I can't believe what I just saw!"
She particularly liked the costumes, saying, "The costumes are so magnificent - in design and colour - and the fabrics that were used, and the embroideries, the sequence, and all the jewels. The choice of colour is so significant, it's obvious. I say the show is excellent!"
She said the live music was "so interesting" because it "combines both Western and ancient instruments."
The DPA show was her first introduction to Chinese classical dance and China's ancient history. "I was also impressed with the sense of history here, the five millennia. It was so interesting. This is information I didn't know about. It's something that I haven't studied and I've just had a little taste of it now."
Ms. Bohl realised that the DPA show had no colouring of Communist Party culture in it, whatsoever. "This is true Chinese history and not something sanctioned by the present Chinese regime. It is based on ancient culture and it carries through each generation, and that is very important to me. That's one of the reasons I brought my 5-year-old granddaughter to the show."
She also liked the singers, saying, "The singers have such beautifully trained voices. They're just so talented!"
When asked if she would recommend the show to her friends, she replied, "I am hoping to call some of my friends as soon as I get home and encourage them to come to the evening show."
"Best Show I Have Ever, Ever Seen ... Anywhere!"
Carroll Frascino and her husband, both retired business owners, said that they thoroughly enjoyed the show. "Best show I have ever, ever seen!" said Mrs. Frascino, a former ballet dancer.
When asked to compare the DPA show to other shows she'd seen, she replied, "My Mom and husband and I have been to many, many Broadway shows and by far this is the best show I have ever seen ... anywhere - on Broadway, every dinner theatre we've been to - this was just magnificent! You should be very, very proud of the people in the show and everybody who sponsored the show. It was a really, really wonderful day."
Mrs. Frascino thought the show was "unique" and that the costumes were the "prettiest and nicest that I have ever seen."
"And the dancing was the best I have ever seen. And the singing was just as magnificent. I mean the show was just really the best anywhere. And I will definitely be back every year to see this again. Definitely!"
She felt that the show carried a message of "hope and peace in the world ... and just a lot of love."
When the reporter asked Mrs. Frascino how the Chinese dancers compared to other dancers she was familiar with, she replied, "I would have to say that it is more graceful than I have ever seen. The hand movements and the leg movements and the women's hands were the most beautiful I have ever seen, anywhere. Just really beautiful ... graceful, that's all I can say."
She continued, "I studied ballet for about 10 years when I was young and these girls in the show were ... I just can't say enough, really. And they're beautiful, too. Not only talented, but beautiful, too!"
Mr. Frascino shared his impression of the show, saying, "The scenery was wonderful, it was wonderful! And the costumes were unbelievable, very nice. And the girls were all beautiful, really. Nice show, wonderful show. I am glad we got tickets and we had beautiful seats. We had front row seats, wonderful seats."
He particularly liked the presentation of the show, saying, "Very good, very good. Yes, I liked they way they presented the whole show with the way they had Chinese and English speaking hosts that explained everything. Each act was explained so nicely that you could understand it so very nicely. It was wonderful. Couldn't ask for anything better. It was very relaxing and I loved it!"
