This school year, I started to teach several middle school classes. One of my students has severe behavioural problems. He always hits others, curses, and speaks loudly in class. Sometimes he even insults teachers in class, and in my class, he is no exception. Even though he never swears at me, he often talks in class, and sometimes he says things against Falun Gong. After talking with him a few times with no improvement, one day I ordered him to stand outside the classroom. After that period was over, I talked to him. He said, "Teacher, if I were a policeman, I would arrest you right away. I want to report on you because you talk about Falun Gong in class. You are talking about politics." I replied, "It's not because I talked about Falun Gong that you want to report on me, but because I prohibit you from disrupting the class." He said, "Yes!"
After that, a school leader told me in private, "Don't tell students the truth of the Tiananmen Self-Immolation. You'll be in big trouble if the principal hears about it. Don't ask me who told me this." I laughed and said, "It's alright. I just tell people the truth. Don't worry about me. Nothing bad will happen to me."
After that exchange with the school leader, I was not worried even for a little bit. I knew that it was time for me to search inside myself. There must be human attachments and tribulations. Master said,
"When you encounter ordeals during your cultivation, you have got to cultivate yourself and look at yourself--that doesn't mean acknowledging the ordeals arranged by the old forces and trying to do well amidst the ordeals they've arranged, that's not the case. We negate even the very emergence of the old forces and everything that they've arranged; we don't even acknowledge their existence. We're fundamentally negating all of their things, and all of, and only, the things you do while negating and getting rid of them is mighty-virtue. It's not that you're cultivating amidst the ordeals they created. Rather, you are to walk your own path well while not acknowledging them, not even acknowledging the elimination of their ordeals' manifestations. (Applause) So looking at it from this angle, what we need to do is completely negate the old forces. Dafa disciples and I don't even acknowledge the manifestations of their last-ditch efforts." ("Teaching the Fa at the 2004 Chicago Conference")
Following Master's requirement, I searched inside myself. Cultivating myself in the Fa is to walk the Fa-rectification path arranged by Master and is to completely negate the old forces as well.
Searching inside, I found that during the process of dealing with that disruptive student, my attachments of anger, competition, and other attachments all became apparent. After finding my attachments, I eliminated them. Afterwards, I began to treat that student with compassion. I stopped using harsh words that irritated him, but gently reminded him of his behaviour.
One day, he finally held my hand and told me, "Teacher, I always liked to use bad words. Please forgive the nonsense that I said before. I'm sorry!"
From then on, this student began to see Falun Gong positively. He even asked for a Dafa amulet(1). Under his influence, his friends all wanted to have an amulet as well. They also wanted to learn the truth about Falun Gong. As a result, they began to have righteous thoughts about Falun Gong.
I am grateful that Master asks us to search inside, which helps me to be more diligent on the path of cultivation.
Note:
(1) Amulets -- In China, practitioners sometimes clarify the truth by giving people something small to wear or cherish, bearing a few words reminding them of the goodness of Dafa.
