At present in China, most Falun Dafa practitioners practice the exercises alone, in their homes, and only a very few practitioners are able to practice together. So it is possible that some practitioners' posture and cultivation states are incorrect while doing the exercises. If these mistakes are not pointed out by fellow practitioners, it may gradually bring bad influences upon the practitioner.
Take myself as an example. I never felt that I was performing any incorrect movements or postures while doing the seated medication. I kept practicing the same way every day and became accustomed to it. In fact, it was possible that my movements and state might not have been correct with regard to many things while doing the exercises. However, with my eyes closed, I felt that my practice was pretty good.
Later I rented a house and shared it with another practitioner. I observed that this fellow practitioner's body swung back and forth while doing the seated meditation and this practitioner also often appeared to be on the verge of falling asleep. So I pointed out the problems. However, this fellow practitioner told me that I had the same issues while I was doing the sitting meditation. At the beginning, I was unwilling to acknowledge my problems, so the fellow practitioner kindly pointed out this issue again and again each time we were doing the seated meditation. Only then did I realize that while I had sat in meditation for years, there were some times my consciousness wasn't quite clear. When I was on the verge of falling asleep, my body would swing back and forth, my thumbs didn't touch and my body position was incorrect, which I hadn't realized at all. When I saw the real state of my sitting meditation, I was shocked. When I shared my experiences with other practitioners, some practitioners said that they also had the same issues.
Teacher said in "Zhuan Falun":
"Our practice isn't like the typical qigong practice, where people get all in a daze, they're all foggy, and they get obsessed. In our practice you have to know full well that you're cultivating yourself."
When I looked inward to find why I felt drowsy while doing the sitting meditation, I found out that there are many attachments behind my drowsiness. These attachments include my laziness, numbness, not taking the Fa seriously, not cultivating solidly, not letting go of my attachments for a long time and taking Fa study and practicing the exercises as a mere formality. I didn't combine doing the three things (the Fa [the teachings of Falun Dafa], send forth righteous thoughts and clarify the truth about Falun Dafa and about the persecution to the world's people) with my personal cultivation, so my attachments were not removed and my xinxing (character) didn't improve. I looked inward with my fellow practitioner and together we discovered our attachments one by one. We realized that we should take the Fa and cultivation practice seriously, so we started to rectify ourselves according the Fa. By doing so, we have rectified our long-term incorrect state while doing the exercises. Afterwards, our bodies and minds have both changed significantly and our skin has become finer than before.
I thank our merciful Teacher for saving me and thank my fellow practitioner for pointing out my shortcomings. The purpose for writing this article is to help those fellow practitioners who have the same issues to immediately rectify themselves too.
