Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi visited Ottawa, Canada's capital city, on June 22nd and 23rd. He and his delegation encountered Falun Gong practitioners calling for the end of the persecution at every stop.
When Yang's motorcade drove out of Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel around 2pm on June 23rd, a red light at Wellington St. put the motorcade in front of "Falun Dafa Is Good" banner for two minutes.
Yang's itinerary in Canada did not include any press conference or interview. Media were only given two photo opportunities.
Only invited media were allowed into the Canada China Business Council (CCBC) luncheon sponsored by China on June 23rd. Reporters weren't allowed to ask questions. Chris Spencer, a reporter of the largest Canadian newspaper publisher, Sun Media, was refused entry. Spencer had previously written reports criticising the CCP.
CCBC rejected Epoch Times and NTDTV reporters. Other Canadian media, including the influential Globe and Mail, exposed the condemned the rejection.
To avoid reporters and Falun Gong practitioners, Yang Jiechi used either side door or back door almost every time he had to leave or enter his hotel or Department of Foreign Affairs.
However, he could see Falun Gong banners and hear Falun Gong practitioners protests every place he went. Practitioners set up banners across the street from his hotel early in the morning of June 22nd. When Yang's motorcade entered Parliament Hill, a group of tourists happened to be walking across the street and stopped the motorcade. The motorcade had to face Falun Gong banners and protests.
Yang left Parliament Hill close to noon, and had to pass Falun Gong banners all along the streets. Practitioners shouted through speakers, "Falun Dafa is great! Stop persecuting Falun Gong! Bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang to justice! The CCP is doomed! Quit the CCP to be safe!"
When Yang's motorcade drove away from the Chateau Laurier Hotel around 2pm on June 23rd, a red light at Wellington St. put the motorcade in front of "Falun Dafa Is Good" banner for two minutes.
Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhou Limin said, "We saw his car stop. We shouted aloud word by word, 'Stop persecuting Falun Gong!' 'Falun Dafa is great!' Time seemed to have stopped. Our voice echoed in the sky. ... Even passersby could feel Falun Gong practitioners' peaceful and compassionate energy field.
Practitioner Xin Qihua said, "Ottawa citizens were impressed with Falun Gong practitioners' rationality. A passerby said he would like to learn Falun Gong from us. We met someone outside of the hotel. He was shocked to learn about the persecution and took the initiative to help us distribute materials in the hotel.
Falun Gong practitioners in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal participated in the protest. A Falun Gong practitioner from Toronto said their hard work was worthwhile because the Canadian government and Chinese officials would be able to learn more about the persecution.
