Changing My Notions and Saving People with Compassion

I have benefited a lot from continuously practicing Falun Gong and cultivating Xinxing (character) since 1996. Since the brutal persecution began on July 20, 1999, I have been to Beijing to appeal, and have being clarifying the truth (explaining the facts of the illegal persecution) about Falun Gong in my company and every public environment until now. During the past ten years, most of the time I have avoided persecution using righteous thoughts and have done the three things (clarify the truth, send forth righteous thoughts, study the teachings of Falun Gong) which are required of Fa rectification period Dafa disciples. I distributed fliers and CDs, explaining the facts to people about Falun Gong. I have also set up an informational materials production site and worked as a coordinator in a small town for four years. However, I did not do well in saving people. In five years only three CCP (Chinese communist party) members listened to me and quit the CCP. Even my family members, relatives and friends refused to quit the CCP.

Lately I studied Master's "Fa Teaching at the 2009 Washington DC International Fa Conference". I have suddenly enlightened to why I have not done well in persuading people to quit the CCP. In those years I did not use compassion, but tried to change others' notions. The bad elements were not eliminated, so the effect was not good. Master said,

"If you, as Dafa disciples, want to effect change in a person when you clarify the truth and want to save him, you must not arouse the negative elements in that person. You must hold to being shan, and only then can you resolve problems that may arise and save that person."

"Compassion is an enormous energy, the energy of righteous gods."

"The greatest manifestation of shan is compassion, and it is an expression of tremendous energy. It can disintegrate all that is not right."

During truth clarification and persuading people to do the "three withdrawals" and saving sentient beings, I always tried to change others' notions. I was attached to what I wanted to say and what I was thinking. I did not consider others' attitudes and how much they could accept my words. I seldom paid attention to others' attachments and did not follow people's attachments when trying to save them. With the intention to change others, they did not accept my words because they rubbed them the wrong way. When I tried to change others, I often went against people's attachments, instead of following people's attachments. It's very easy to arouse their notions and attachments. I aroused the negative elements in those people. Arguments arose, and sometimes they overreacted. This has happened many times. I did not show the compassion of a Falun Dafa practitioner. Now I realize that I cannot save people this way.

To change others' notions and help them realize the evil nature of the CCP, I usually brought up the historical facts where the CCP did bad things. Most of them came from the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party or from websites. Since people have been deceived by the CCP for a long time, they often doubted whether those historical facts are true. Now I realize that way of saving people is ineffective. It's hard to change people's notions in several minutes using historical facts, as they have been deceived all their lives.

Master's lecture solved my puzzle and enlightened me.
