I have been practicing Falun Gong for 13 years. In the spring of 1999, I memorized the whole book of Zhuan Falun. At the time I was very busy taking care of my grandson who was very weak and easily fell ill, so I could only memorize 6 pages each day. On my second time of memorizing the book, I got up to Lecture 5, when the CCP's (Chinese communist party) persecution of Falun Gong had just started and thus interrupted my plans to finish the book. But with the Fa in my mind, I cherished it and the high pressure from the CCP did not change my firm belief in Dafa.
In August 2003, I tried again to memorize the Fa. On my first couple of attempts, I could only memorize 10 pages every day, and when I had completed the whole book I almost forgot the contents of Lecture One. The third time, I decided to change the way I read Zhuan Falun. That is, to repeatedly read one bit out aloud, then try to recite what I had read until it as firm in my mind, then continue to read more of the book. Also, I took the approach of reciting what I had memorized in the afternoon with what I had memorized in the morning, then reciting at night what had been memorized in the afternoon. Each time repeating from the beginning, while adding a new part each time. This way, each day I would recite what had been memorized the day before, and each week recite what had been memorized the previous week. By training myself to memorize the Fa this way, after four months of painstaking effort I was able to recite the whole book of Zhuan Falun within two days. When walking together with another practitioner, we took turns to recite each section after another and were able to recite a whole lecture within a short amount of time.
Memorizing the Fa is a process that enables oneself to advance and raise one's level. The heart must be extra tranquil when one reads, memorizes, recites and repeatedly reads again. To suffer a setback when memorizing the Fa is commonplace, especially when two parts look similar. The reader needs to pay close attention to the differences. I would alternate my reading, first reading aloud then reading silently, trying to correct any errors when reciting. Sometimes after memorizing I seemed to forget it all, as if I had not read it. My most troublesome time was during Lecture Six and the section "The Great Heavenly Circuit" in Lecture Eight. I cried many times, and asked Master, "Master! How come I am so dumb?" Even now I have not been able to recite the whole book of Zhuan Falun without any mistakes. I realize that this is the Fa and not just a book. If one does not reach a high enough level, then one cannot recite or understand the Fa perfectly.
Memorizing the Fa is tough, but the results are so wonderful. I am already 70 years old, and after being able to recite lectures in Zhuan Falun, my hair has become much smoother and is a glossy black, and the wrinkles on my face have disappeared. When I speak to others on the phone, they say, "Your voice sounds like thunder." More importantly, fellow practitioners and I are more successful in clarifying the truth to people, as our surrounding environment has become more calm and peaceful. In my understanding it is because we took seriously studying the Fa and memorizing the Fa.
Master always emphasizes the importance of studying the Fa. We must really set Fa-study as our top priority. Only with a daily mission to read and memorize the Fa, can we firmly grasp the essence and have a solid foundation. If we decide to study the Fa after completing our household chores then by the time we are finally ready to study the Fa we may be too tired.
