On the night of February 12th, 2010, Chinese New Year's Eve, Falun Gong practitioners held a candlelight vigil in front of the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver, Canada, to commemorate over 3000 fellow practitioners who have been confirmed dead as a result of the ten year long persecution. The 2010 Winter Olympics began in Vancouver the same day.
The candlelight vigil was to raise awareness of Chinese Communist Party's brutal persecution of Falun Gong, and to stop CCP atrocities. From time to time, cars passing by honked and drivers gave the thumbs-up to show support.
Sue Zhang, a spokesperson for the Falun Gong Association in Vancouver, said that thousands of Falun Gong practitioners are still being persecuted in China because of their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. As the year of the Tiger approached, the candlelight vigil was to commemorate the fellow practitioners died in the persecution and also to warn the CCP to stop committing evil deeds.
