An Eighty-Year-Old Practitioner: Be a Wise Person in Cultivation

Studying the Fa

I am eighty years old. I have never been to school and for most of my life, have been unable to read. I dictated my cultivation experiences to report to Teacher and share with fellow practitioners.

I started practicing Falun Gong in April 1996. Two months later, I could see Falun rotating near my eyes when I sat in meditation. The Falun was the size of a fist and was very colourful and shining. I was greatly encouraged.

At first, I didn't have Dafa books. I just watched the video tapes of Teacher's Fa lectures. Shortly after that, I got a copy of Zhuan Falun. However, I couldn't read. So I asked my child to read a few pages to me every evening. Maybe Teacher saw my challenge and determination to cultivate, so he helped me. When I sat in meditation or was asleep, the characters in Zhuan Falun appeared as big as a finger tip clearly in my head. Even in my dreams, line by line of characters would show up in front of my eyes. From then on, I started hand-copying Lunyu I copied stroke by stroke and character by character. Next, I was able to read Dafa books following Teacher's Fa lecture recording. For those characters that I didn't know, I marked them so that I could ask for help from other practitioners later. Even when I was walking, I thought how to write the characters that I had just learned. Three months later, I could read through the whole book of Zhuan Falun. A year later, I memorized Lunyu. Later, I read the whole book of Zhuan Falun again each week. I am quite familiar with the book.

Although I can't read the Fa as fluently as college graduates, our local practitioners say that my cultivation is no worse than the college graduate in our Fa-study group. Of course, I know that I should not be too pleased with myself. Now I can read all Teacher's Fa lectures and Minghui Weekly, a weekly publication by Minghui website, Clearwisdom's sister website in Chinese. I can't read other things that are not Dafa related. Of course, I won't read them and I don't have time to read them. I spend all my time on studying the Fa.

Validating Dafa

I have experienced many miracles since I started cultivating Dafa. Once when I opened the door for another person, I put my fingers on the door frame. A strong wind blew the metal door closed and smashed my fingers. My skin was torn with a big hole and blood kept coming out. The other person was to scared to look at it. I told her that I would be fine. I thought, "Teacher said that good or evil comes from a person's spontaneous thought." Thus, I pinched the wound and washed the blood off with water. I didn't put a bandage on it. Shortly, the bleeding stopped. I cooked dinner and washed clothes that day, doing all I had planned to do as normal. A few days later my fingers had completely recovered. There was not even a single scar.

One day in the summer, I wasn't paying attention and a cooking pot full of boiling water poured over me from head to toe. I felt my whole body burning. I said to myself, "Not a big deal. I have Teacher and Dafa with me." I was fine the next day and didn't even have any blisters.

Doing the Three Things Diligently

Since I started practicing, I have been very careful about respecting Teacher and Dafa. Whatever I could think of, I would try to do if possible. I try to sit with both legs crossed when studying the Fa. Since I read the book slowly, I don't want to waste any time. When I don't have much time, I will recite Hong Yin. When I am sleepy, I will do housework, cleaning the desk and washing towels. Then I come back to Fa study when I am clear-minded. I have never missed morning exercise or sending forth the righteous thoughts. I also study the Fa with a new practitioner. She is very diligent, too.

Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, I have been clarifying the truth: distributing truth-clarification materials; posting truth-clarification banners; posting truth-clarification stickers; and distributing Shen Yun DVDs. Rain or shine, twice a week, I went to bring the truth-clarification materials back for nine fellow practitioners to distribute. We distributed truth-clarification materials over the entire city. I was over seventy then. With Teacher's support, I never felt tired.

I can persuade people to withdraw from the CCP and its affiliated organizations in a few sentences. Wherever I go, I clarify the truth. Many people I talked to, about 200, agreed to quit the CCP. Some of them are policemen or village party secretaries.

I write their names first and let my child rewrite them again when I get home. Then I give the names to fellow practitioners to publish on the website. Once I persuaded Mr. Pan to quit the CCP. I didn't know how to write his last name, so I just drew a circle and let my child write it for me when I got home.

I know what I do is still not enough compared to those who do extremely well. I will do better and be more diligent in my cultivation, to be a "wise person" in cultivation.

Finally, I want say a few words. Articles on the Minghui website have helped me a lot. I appreciate all practitioners who work on the site. I hope all fellow practitioners will be diligent, cultivate themselves well, do well the three things (study the Fa [the teachings of Falun Dafa], send forth righteous thoughts and clarify the truth about Falun Dafa and about the persecution to the world's people), and follow Teacher to return home.
