On July 8 and 9, major media outlets in Mainland China reported an explosive news item: from June 23 to Jun 30, nine programs on CCTV and 10 provincial television stations in Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, etc, broadcasted some form of Falun Gong truth-clarifying programs.
Jiang's mouthpieces have relentlessly attacked these actions, but the result is that people all over China have focused their attention on this issue. It has become the hot topic of conversation everywhere.
Party Committee official: Falun Gong is truly remarkable and has capable people. Jiang is no match for them.
Commentator: Haven't they continuously said that Falun Gong has been defeated? Luo touted the "decisive victory" in the struggle against Falun Gong in his reports every year. But now the state-run media is openly reporting that when Jiang went to Hong Kong to attend the five-year anniversary celebrations, they switched to tape-delay instead of a live transmission because they were afraid of Falun Gong tapping into the broadcast.
Political and Legal agency police: What an idiotic strategy by the leadership! Are they afraid that the effect of the Falun Gong TV programs was too small? Now they're mobilizing the entire country's media to bring attention to it.
A laid-off worker: In the past, us common folk never had the chance to voice our opinions publicly, only the officials could. Now Falun Gong finally said something that's been on our minds--how refreshing!
Staff member at a Flood Relief Headquarters: In the newspaper, they said that we depend on the weather forecasts from TV in disaster relief efforts, and used this to label Falun Gong as obstructing efforts to provide relief to flood victims. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I heard that. During the disaster relief period, we primarily communicate with other departments using telephone or fax, and all of the latest weather analysis and flood alerts are provided by higher-level agencies with the most up-to-date information. We don't even use the weather forecasts on TV.
Internet Café owner: Jiang branded Voice of America, AP, BBC, Reuters, and 500,000 other overseas websites as illegal sites, setting up all kinds of blockades. That's what violating international laws and disrupting the safe transmission of public information really means.
Retired high level official: Those words that Jiang's mouthpieces are using to attack Falun Gong: "disrupting, failing, disrupting again, failing again, all the way until complete destruction," the same words were used by the Gang of Four in the Cultural Revolution to attack senior officials that they wanted to pull down. In the end it was the Gang of Four that met this fate. Can Jiang escape the same outcome?
Engineer: The state-run media said that this broadcast of the Falun Gong truth-clarifying TV program was powered by wireless signals transmitted by Dafa practitioners outside China, intercepting the Sinosat signal. Isn't this giving ideas to upright people to experiment with these things more?
Cab driver: Those people in the government really are panicking. On TV they're saying over and over again how the satellite was used by Falun Gong to expose the truth. The blanket all-out coverage they're giving is just like when they promoted the whole "self-immolation" episode. They're repeatedly emphasizing how capable those Falun Gong are.
Farmer: We really like Falun Gong's truth-clarifying TV programs. We will be happy if they want to play them some more.
