There is a Falun Gong practice group in Iceland now. When a Chinese person heard that the daughter of his Icelandic colleague had begun to practise Falun Gong, he began to slander it. To prove his points he gave one of Li Hongzhis articles to the father of the practitioner. However, this turned out to have the opposite effect. After coming home, the mother picked up this article and started to read, afterwards she thought "Wow, this is really good stuff!" Later in the week the mother asked her daughter for more Falun Dafa literature and she is now reading Falun Gong. The mother also asked her daughter to teach her the exercises.
This week an Icelandic practitioner published an article in a newspaper, clarifying the truth of Jiang Zemins persecution and also asking the Government how they would react if Icelanders were held as hostages in a Danish Primary school, because of their spiritual belief [Click Here]. After the article, the practitioner received many phone calls from Icelanders. Some of them called to show their support, and some of them wanted to learn the practise straight away.
Later in the week, at a party of influential Icelandic people, the hottest topic seemed to be Falun Gong and this practitioners article in the media. Everyone spoke positively about Falun Gong and harshly denounced the Prime Ministers decision to bar Falun Gong practitioners from entering Iceland. They seemed really touched that someone so close - an Icelander - was also practising Falun Gong.
The issue of Falun Gong in Iceland is by no means dissolving, nor is it fading away. The debate and discussions in the papers are still ongoing and are largely supportive of Falun Gong. Many people with powerful positions in Icelandic society have published articles in the main newspaper (and are still doing so) to criticise the decision to not let Falun Gong practitioners into the country. The peacefulness of Falun Gong, and the injustice forced upon it has deeply touched the hearts of the Icelanders.
Many Icelandic people have contacted the office of the Prime Minister, trying to make him realize his mistake and make up for it. Many politicians have put heavy pressure on him as well.
In the media and in private, Icelanders, including those who used to vote for him, believe that he will loose his position in the Icelandic Elections in a few months time. The reason is said to be that 99% of the Icelanders are outraged by his decision, which seriously violated Human Rights, Icelandic Ethics, and Democratic Principles.
