UK: Torrential Rain and Falun Dafa in a South Yorkshire City

On Saturday 20th July 2002, UK Falun Gong practitioners were in a South Yorkshire city to tell people about the benefits that they have received from practising Falun Gong and the inhuman persecution being inflicted on practitioners in China by the ruthless dictator Jiang Zemin. This was a special commemorative day for the practitioners because it marked three years of the vicious persecution of 100 million innocent Falun Gong practitioners in China, which began on July 20th 1999.

The practitioners handed out leaflets, newspapers and VCDs to tell the people of South Yorkshire about the Chinese President’s tyrannical reign of terror. They also demonstrated the five easy-to-learn Falun Gong exercises. People showed concern and support for the suffering practitioners in China and many signed a petition calling for an immediate end to this suppression. A lot of interest was also shown in the Falun Gong exercises and many people took details of their local free class.

All of the UK practitioners were surprised by the large amount of Chinese people in this city and how freely they accepted materials revealing the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong. Many Chinese people have been poisoned by their President’s enormous propaganda machine and are often scared to take the materials that are offered them. However, after three years of the torture and murder of their own people for merely wanting to be good, many Chinese have learnt to see through the lies. One Chinese lady received a Falun Dafa newspaper from a western practitioner and exclaimed, “Oh Wow! It’s in Chinese! Thank you – I will read it all”. A large group of visiting Chinese businessmen seemed amazed when they first saw the Falun Dafa practitioners. Their government has always told them that Falun Dafa is banned worldwide, yet here are many happy, healthy people practising the exercises freely in a city centre! The Chinese businessmen were extremely eager to receive newspapers and VCDs and they took many photographs of posters revealing the persecution, and the support for Falun Dafa in almost 60 countries worldwide. They even returned to the stall later.

The day saw the sunlight interrupted by frequent rainstorms of a magnitude that many said has not been seen in South Yorkshire for years. The torrential rain turned the street into a mini-river. However, this did not stop the city’s Mayoress and her assistant from visiting the practitioners to wish them well and learn more about Falun Dafa. The Mayoress was very happy to receive the Chinese music of Pu Du and Ji Shi and a book of the paintings of Chinese artist and Falun Gong practitioner, Zhang Cuiying. The Assistant Mayor told one practitioner how he suffers from stress and asked for a leaflet so that he could find the address of a Falun Gong website and learn the exercises.

In the days leading up to this event, the weather was very hot and pleasant. However, it seemed as if for one day only South Yorkshire was subject to a tropical rainstorm. This did not shake the determination of the practitioners and they found that many wet people were still very interested to learn more about Falun Gong!
