Ms. Zhang said When I heard about the Spirit of Friendship festival, it really struck a cord with me because I always strive to express peace and kindness in my paintings. I felt I wanted to show my support, therefore I decided to donate all of the proceeds of one of my paintings, which I expect to sell for around £40,000.
The painting is called Two Handsome Horses. In Chinese art the image of the horse is a symbol of good fortune, health, strength and intelligence. As the famous Chinese idiom goes "success falls when the horse arrives". It is a recent work from Ms. Zhangs collection of Masterpieces.
Ms. Zhang has held numerous art exhibitions in more than 70 cities among 20 countries worldwide. Currently, her paintings are part of the collections of the Queen of Holland, the President of Russia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Latvia. I want to donate the money to Manchester 2002 Ltd, to be awarded to the outstanding athletes, with and without disabilities, who most capture the Spirit of Friendship.
Ms. Zhang was imprisoned and tortured in China for eight months in the year 2000, because she refused to give up Truth, Compassion and Forbearance, which are the main principles of Falun Gong spiritual practice.
