Indonesia: Practitioners Hold Rally Protesting the 13-Year Persecution of Falun Gong

On July 20th, 1999, the CCP and the Jiang regime initiated a large scale persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, which has led to countless broken families and thousands of unjust deaths as a result of torture and abuse in detention. Thirteen years have passed and the persecution is still going on. Falun Gong practitioners around the world continuously conduct peaceful events to raise awareness and protest the persecution. Along with more people understanding the situation, worldwide support has become stronger.

At 8:30 a.m. on July 14th, 2012, in front of the Chinese Embassy, Falun Gong practitioners held a peaceful rally. They lined up and held banners or portraits of fellow practitioners who lost their lives in the persecution. They condemned the CCP’s 13-year-long persecution and commemorated the fellow practitioners who died in the persecution. They earnestly called for an end to the persecution.

Mr. Gatot, Director of the Indonesia Falun Dafa Association, gave a speech and called on governments around the world to help stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. He emphasised that big changes were occurring in the Chinese regime and that the perpetrators of the persecution will soon be brought to justice.

Many local media outlets, such as SCTV, Tribune Kompas online media and Antara News, covered the event. Many non-governmental organisations sent letters to express their support. Mr. Sinung Karto from the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), a well-known human rights organisation, gave a speech. He said that KontraS completely supported Falun Dafa practitioners and would make every effort to investigate and expose the violence in China, to stop the atrocities and bring the perpetrators to justice.

In the afternoon, the practitioners went to Fountain Square in downtown Jakarta and continued the protest and awareness raising event. The practitioners’ peaceful protest on the busy square drew a lot of people to stop and find out more. The performance of the band and drum team was enjoyed by many passersby. Some practitioners used loudspeakers to explain the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong to the public. Many people took informational materials.
