On the occasion of the 13th anniversary of Falun Gong practitioners’ peaceful protests opposing the persecution in China, many United States Members of Congress sent letters to express their support for Falun Gong practitioners’ tireless efforts to end the persecution. US Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren from California wrote the following letter in support of Falun Gong practitioners’ grand public rally in Washington, DC, opposing the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong. She said in the letter, “I will continue to fight for basic human rights.”
US Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren from California |
To the Assembled Members of the Falun Gong,
I greatly appreciate your invitation to attend today’s rally in Washington DC to raise awareness about the persecution of the Falun Gong in China. It is with the sincerest regret that I must inform you that I am not able to attend.
For thirteen years, the Falun Gong has been denied freedom of expression in China. All people should have the ability to live in a society where religious tolerance, freedom of speech, and democracy are commonplace. We must continue to work to ensure that human freedoms are respected around the world. Please be assured that I will continue to fight for basic human rights. I thank you for raising awareness about the situation in China, and I offer my best wishes for a successful rally.
Sincerely,
Zoe Lofgren
Member of Congress
