Their primary job is to manufacture artificial flowers, but they are also assigned other tasks. The supervising guard has business contracts with outside enterprises. The more productive the inmates are, the more profit he gains.
The inmates have two meals everyday, one at 10:00 a.m. and one at 4:00 p.m. They only have five minutes to finish their meal; if they do not finish it within that time, they have to throw away what is left. The quality of the food is very poor. The boiled bean sprouts are sprinkled with salt as well as sand with no oil added. The portion is small too, so the inmates have to buy supplementary food from the detention centre using their own money. The food in the detention centre is much more expensive than outside. Every day, practitioners had only five minutes to finish their shower and to wash their clothes. If they cannot finish in five minutes, they are kept outside their cells for the rest of the night.
When officials visit the detention centre, the supervising guard will make the inmates tell lies such as, "Every day we work eight hours, and we watch TV at night." Those who refuse to do so are made to "ride the airplane"[In this torture, the head is bent down until it cannot go down any further, while the hands are pulled up and held up to the highest point. One is forced to hold this position for a long time. The body in this position looks like the shape of an airplane, which is how this torture was named. For an illustrationclick here]
Many of the inmates find the torment in the detention centre unbearable and some become suicidal. The chief guard also forces the inmates to take turns watching these people at night. Though they are already completely exhausted, the inmates are further denied sleep.
Ten Dafa practitioners from Tsinghua University have been held in this detention centre for one year and eight months. The guards had planned to press charges for subversion but have yet to come up with any evidence. There are also many other Dafa practitioners from Zhuhai who are physically and mentally tortured, but they are steadfast in their belief in Falun Gong and resist the persecution.
I would like to appeal to all kind-hearted people in the world and international human rights organizations to help stop the persecution and extend help to practitioners in the detention centre.
