Mr. Li Guojun and Ms. Zhang Xinyi had been teaching Chinese in a school in Phnom Penh. In May 2002, a friend from abroad sent the couple a package containing Falun Gong books and materials. Upon discovering the package, the Chinese school in Phnom Penh fired them.
At noon on August 14, 2002, in order to urgently rescue Mr. Li and Ms. Zhang and point out that the Cambodian government violated international regulations by openly abducting UN refugees, as well as to expose the fact that the Chinese Embassy is extending the persecution of Falun Gong all over the world, Falun Gong practitioners from Washington DC went to the Cambodian Embassy located on 16th St. to hold a peaceful appeal. Practitioners displayed a banner reading, "Falun Dafa, Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance" in both Chinese and Cambodian. They quietly sat on the grass in front of the Cambodian Embassy, doing sitting meditation and Fa Zheng Nian [rough transl Sending Forth Righteous Thoughts].
At around 1 p.m., a few practitioners rang the bell of the Cambodian Embassy and calmly went into the embassy to deliver a letter to its officials. They also clarified the truth about Dafa to all of the staff members. At around 4 p.m., after persistent efforts, the practitioners visited an official and clarified the truth to him. They explained to him the facts of the Jiang regime's persecution of overseas Falun Gong practitioners and its pressuring other countries' governments.
The practitioners told the Cambodian officials about the principle of karmic retribution [Editor An ancient principle of good deeds are rewarded and bad deeds punished.] and called on the Cambodian government not to yield to the Jiang regime's vicious pressure and serve as accomplices in their evil schemes. Practitioners also expressed their wishes that Cambodian government would take into account their international image and their country's future and stand by the side of justice.
