Greetings! I am a journalist in Mainland China by profession and also a Falun Gong practitioner. Because I exercised my constitutional right to peacefully appeal to the Central Government for my right to practice my belief, I was arrested, my home was ransacked, I was dismissed from my job, my Party membership was cancelled, and I was harassed and finally detained. There are practitioners I knew who have died as a result of the relentless persecution, or who are still being held in detention centres, others have been forced to become homeless to avoid further persecution just like me.
I admire Falun Gong practitioners in Hong Kong, because there they have the "one country, two systems" policy and also a legally registered Falun Dafa Association. While we are all Chinese, after July 20, 1999, my fellow Hong Kong practitioners have been able to legally practice Falun Gong in public places, enjoying freedom of speech and spiritual belief. Yet, I could not believe my eyes when I saw pictures of Hong Kong policemen manhandling Falun Gong practitioners, who were peacefully appealing by sitting quietly in front of China's liaison office. Why is it that the actions against the Falun Gong practitioners, by the Hong Kong police exactly duplicated the actions taken by the Mainland Chinese Public Security agents against practitioners who came from all over the country to peacefully appeal on July 20, 1999?
From the published photos, we can clearly see there was ample space in front of the appealing practitioners. In fact, the reality is that there was no such thing as "obstructing the street", or "assaulting policemen." Even though the video and photos of the incident clearly show no obstruction were published, why then were the prosecutors heatedly talking nonsense, just in the same manner as officials in China's ”the 610 Office”?
A friend of mine, living in Hong Kong, once commented upon the return of Hong Kong back to China saying, "The Hong Kong people don't have confidence in China." Now I can understand why they were so worried at that time, since the promise of "no change in Hong Kong for 50 years" is quickly becoming just another political joke and manoeuvre from China.
Hong Kong SAR Government officials, have you ever considered the feelings of the Hong Kong people? Do you ever consider those concerns being viewed by people around the world? As you can clearly see:
Ever since Jiang, out of his paranoia, began a campaign of persecution against Falun Gong, do you know how many practitioners died of torture? Do you know how many were thrown into prison without trial, how many were brainwashed, how many lost their homes, families and jobs? Do you know how many children were so desperate to see their homeless parents return to care for them, how many elderly grandparents have been so worried about their sons and daughters who were forced to leave their homes to avoid persecution, moving from place to place? Do you know how much effort, tax payers money and manpower, has been used to fund both national and local ”the 610 Office” and their networks of persecution?
Information Blockade: When watching Hong Kong TV programming from China, one can constantly see sudden blank stripes or other unrelated scenes on the screen. Every month in the pre-editorial board meetings of Guangdong's Provincial Radio, Film and TV Bureau, Zhang Zhongnan, Director of the Office of Editor-in-Chief of Guangdong's Provincial Cable TV (GDCATV), would say, "In transmitted Hong Kong TV programming by GDCATV this month, we blocked a total of such and such number of news items related to Falun Gong, such and such number of news items related to the "June 4th Student Movement," [Referring to the 1989 appeal, where student were killed after appealing to the government] such and such number of news items related to Taiwan, such and such number of news items related to Tibet, and so on and so forth." Jiang's policies require them to do the same thing to block the Internet. Even further, any person subscribing to a Hong Kong newspaper cannot sell back issues to recycling stations, instead they have to send them directly to a paper plant to be pulped rather than allow any one to be able to read their contents.
Fabricating lies to deceive Chinese citizens: Fabricated news is so widespread in China and is commonly applied to issues regarding Falun Gong In the pre-editorial board meetings of every news organization, people are saying "We contacted the ”the 610 Office” and published a total of such and such number of news items related to Falun Gong" as their achievements. The most notorious example is the handling of reporting on the Tiananmen "self-immolation" case. According to regulations, one needs permission to report on cases still in Public Security, Procuratorate and Judiciary processes. Reporting on the "self-immolation" case was broadcast overseas immediately whereas the same story was reported in China through Xinhua News Agency's, the official government mouthpiece, on the first working day of the 8th day of the Chinese lunar new year, after the Spring Festival holiday was over and it received maximum attention. It was so easy to see the systematic Government planning and control that was involved in releasing the news domestically. Nowadays, international communities are very informed about the case. If you slow down the "self-immolation" footage from CCTV, you can clearly see that it is just another staged murder case directed by Jiang's regime to frame Falun Gong.
When I was in Beijing appealing to the Central Government Appeals Office, I asked a police agent, "If you don't want me to appeal here, then why do you keep the sign up there that says 'appeals office?'" He answered, "It is for foreigners to see." Later, they took the sign down, so not even foreigners could see it. Looking at Hong Kong's situation, is the promise of "no change in Hong Kong for 50 years" also only meant for foreigners' ears? Now Jiang wants to persecute Falun Gong in Hong Kong, he does not even care at least keeping up the facade of his "one country, two systems" obligation. Isn't this a dangerous warning?
Relatives from China visiting Hong Kong all give their opinion that once China got its hands on Hong Kong, it is becoming worse.
Hong Kong SAR Government officials, do you really want to follow this wretched dictator who inflicted tremendous catastrophes and suffering upon your fellow Mainland Chinese citizens? I think the scales of ethics and conscience should always be in balance, at all times.
You may already know a thing or two about Mainland affairs and you should also clearly see the changes happening in Hong Kong after the transfer [of Hong Kong back to China]. I believe that most people living in Hong Kong do not want to see this metropolitan city way of life destroyed under Jiang's "carrot and stick" tactics.
So the choice remains up to you: Do you truly keep the promise of "one country, two systems" abiding by the law, not bowing to pressure from China, or do you want Hong Kong to gradually become "Mainland-ised" and watch as the "one country, two systems" policy becomes a mere joke? Think about it. Your decision will mean fortune or disaster for the Hong Kong people. Please do not let Hong Kong become a smaller version of the Mainland.
