Intellectual and former serving party official Bao Tong has written a biting criticism of the party's "three representations" ideology drive.[..] The notes at the end of this article defend the rights of ordinary people to practise Falun Gong. The following is [from] the text of the article by Bao Tong entitled: "Between death and barely surviving - A re-examination of 'three representations'" (Part 2) - "Peasants without land and wilful manipulation of the people" published in the Hong Kong magazine Hong Kong Economic Journal (Hong Kong Hsin Pao) on 27 August[..]

"Books that you are not allowed to read of course include Falun Gong books.[..] The contents of the books promote physical and spiritual training with true, kind, and forgiving feelings.[..]10,000 practitioners used the peaceful method of sitting in silence for half day in 1999 to appeal to the CCP Central Committee to allow them to practise Falun Gong and not to arrest them. After the end of the appeal, they left the site clean and did not discard any garbage. Even the communist party said that it fell behind them in their orderly manner."
