In September of 2001, Falun Dafa practitioner Liao Kairun from Anjiang Town Hongjiang City unfurled a Falun Dafa banner in Tiananmen Square, Beijing. Afterwards, he was arrested, taken back home and illegally sentenced to a stay in a labour camp. After a nine-day hunger strike, he was put on the "dead person's bed" [The four limbs of the practitioner are stretched out and tied to the four corners of an icy-cold metal bed. The practitioner cannot move at all. Neither is he allowed to get up to eat, drink, or go to the bathroom]. This cruel torture treatment would last from several hours up to more than a twelve days and causes severe damage to the practitioner, both mentally and physically. During the hunger strike, he was brutally force-fed but then released after his health declined. In January 2002, he was arrested again when he was telling people the facts about Falun Gong. He was illegally sentenced to 2-1/2 years of forced labour at Changsha City's Xinkaipu Labour Camp, as did another ten practitioners.
