On September 19 Zhang Qingxi, a professor in the Department of Economy at Taiwan University, distributed a news release stating that once people are designated as Falun Gong practitioners by Jiang's regime, they will be detained, fined, fired from their jobs, and evicted from their dwellings without any due process of law. If the practitioners insist on practicing Falun Gong and cannot be "transformed" [brainwashed into giving up their belief], and if they are then tortured to death, the death will be announced as a suicide. This type of dictatorial policy and these cruel deeds are a violation of the law and of basic human rights.
Professor Zhang appealed to the free world to actively denounce the brutal and violent deeds of Jiang, the General Secretary of the Chinese ruling Party. If the free world is indifferent towards the evil deeds of Jiang's regime, it could imply consent, and other groups will also run the risk of becoming the next victims.
Zhang said the ruling Party in China shut down the satellite that carries the BBC's signal, just because the BBC aired Falun Gong related news. This clearly demonstrates that the ruling Party interferes with the freedom of communication. In such a situation, the media in Taiwan should clearly recognize the facts of the persecution toward Falun Gong, and must not function as a propaganda tool of the Jiang regime.
