On October 3, 2002, after finishing activities in Dallas, Texas, the "Urgent Rescue" group of over 20 practitioners drove to Waco, located just a few miles away from President Bush's ranch in Crawford.
In front of the square of the city government building, practitioners unfurled a huge banner with white words against a blue background reading, "President Bush, please help rescue our family members who are suffering persecution in China." The practitioners demonstrated the five sets of exercises to the Dafa exercise music. Major local newspapers and TV stations reported on the activity. Reporters came early to the press conference site and videotaped the practitioners' exercise demonstration.
Several practitioners whose family members are suffering persecution in China gave speeches. Among them was Wang Xiaodan, a student of the University of Texas. Her father Mr. Wang Zhiwen was illegally sentenced for 16 years in jail by Jiang's regime because he refused to give up his belief in Falun Gong. He has suffered inhumane abuse in jail. She requested President Bush to help rescue her father so that she can reunite with him soon. Dr. Jason Wang from Houston told of his mother, who was forcibly sent to a mental hospital and suffered persecution for persisting in cultivating Falun Gong.
More and more people are opposing the Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Gong and recognizing its evil nature. The President of the "Peaceful Group" in Waco came to give an impromptu speech to express his support for Falun Gong. He expressed that he is not a Falun Gong practitioner, but he believed that these people who believe in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" are good people and should not be persecuted. He said that he would try his best to stop this persecution.
